We work to dismantle the systemic barriers that impede economic security and well-being, and strengthen the capacity of human services agencies and faith organizations so New Yorkers with lower incomes can thrive and live with dignity. FPWA engages in research and analysis-driven policymaking and advocacy; program and practice testing to inform policy change; strengthening capacity to build more effective and responsive organizations; and, raising awareness, educating and mobilizing on the issues and policies that most impede economic security and well-being.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Director of Membership and Strategic Partnerships reports to the Chief of Membership & External Affairs and provides strategic oversight, leadership, and management for all membership, faith partner, and strategic partnership engagement.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Membership and Faith Partner Management and Engagement

    • Leads member recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies by establishing and building on FPWA’s Customer Relationship Model (CRM).
    • Oversees the management of key relationships with member organizations, faith partners, and strategic partners.
    • Manages FPWA’s Membership Outreach & Engagement Organizer, Faith Organizer, and departmental interns.
    • Collaboratively develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to grow and deepen FPWA’s relationship with our current member agencies, faith allies, and partner organizations and identify areas for collaboration.
    • Lead efforts to expand membership of FPWA among community and faith-based organizations, build FPWA member identify, and increase positioning of FPWA among the health and human services sector.
    • Supports the Chief of Membership & External Affairs in relaunching and maintaining the Member Advisory Board and developing the Faith Advisory Board: Efforts aimed at better involving and incorporating feedback from member agencies, faith allies, and those directly impacted by FPWA programs and advocacy campaigns in the design and implementation of FPWA programs and advocacy campaigns.
    • Oversee the development and execution of the Member Engagement Calendar and Plan, which includes monthly and quarterly meetings, networking events, (city, state, and federal) advocacy days, member advisory board meetings, annual meetings, etc.
    • Collaborate closely with FPWA’s Program, Policy, and Campaign leadership teams to ensure the alignment of work across teams and exploration of opportunities and partnerships to bolster FPWA’s Program, Policy and Campaign work.
    • Partners with FPWA’s Policy Department to drive member and faith partner engagement in policy, research, and advocacy efforts. This includes working with the Policy team to identify new and emerging policy trends, align advocacy priorities with member needs, and better engage members and allies in our policy advocacy work.
    • Partners with FPWA’s Programs Team to drive member and faith partner engagement in FPWA’s programmatic efforts. This includes working with the Program team to develop programming that meets the needs of FPWA member agencies and allies, encourages expanded understanding of social justice issue areas, and supports our policy priorities.
    • Partners with FPWA’s Campaign Team to drive member and faith partner engagement in FPWA’s economic security campaigns.
    • Oversee the strategic development and management of FPWA’s faith-based campaigns.
    • Partner with FPWA’s Communications Team in marketing and media efforts related to membership, faith, and strategic partnerships.
    • Oversees the implementation and maintenance of the Membership Data Systems management, renewals and retention process, which includes partnering with FPWA’s Operations and Finance Teams to ensure annual renewal and dues management processes are efficient, secured, and maintained.
    • Oversees membership constituent affairs management and support for issues and requests for support raised by FPWA’s broader membership pool.
    • Oversees the tracking of partner outreach, correspondence, and engagement in salesforce, including meeting notes and tasks.

    Strategic Partnerships

    • Serve as a leadership representative of FPWA when interacting with all key stakeholder groups
    • Establish new, and build on existing strategic partnerships, and build roadmap to identify opportunities for partnerships to FPWA’s goals of advancing economic and racial equity while strengthening sector capacity, with emphasis on issue specific organizations, advocacy and interfaith partners
    • Monitor industry, political, and programmatic trends, be well informed and connected.

    Special Initiatives

    • Faith and CBO Network Building – Develop and implement an initiative seeking to tap into faith and community-based organizations collective power and mutual aid capacity to support those most vulnerable and seeking support in communities. Create and promote regular series of cross-sector networking opportunities to drive mutual aid efforts as well as mobilize and engage on the basis of policy and advocacy toward FPWA’s goals of advancing economic and racial equity while strengthening sector capacity.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Relevant Experience – 6-8 years of professional experience in community outreach and engagement, including direct experience working in or with community and/or faith-based institutions.
    • Relevant Educational Background - Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s preferred.
    • Demonstrated Excellence in Advocacy, Community Organizing, Campaign Management and Mobilization – Proven leadership and success in engagement and mobilization at the individual, community, and organizational levels, strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the demonstrated ability to engage and influence others and achieve policy and campaign success.
    • Commitment to Social Justice and Understanding of Needs of Low-Income Communities in New York – Strong commitment to FPWA’s mission and social justice; knowledge in the areas of poverty reduction and alleviation, upward mobility and economic equity
    • Outcome and Results Orientation – Demonstrated ability to manage to an outcomes-based approach and using data to inform improvement and decision-making
    • Operational Management & Capacity Building – Ability to effectively build department and staff capacity including the processes that ensure the department runs smoothly
    • Knowledge of database management and digital outreach tools (Salesforce, Mailchimp, similar)

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

    This position manages all employees of the Membership, Faith, & Strategic Partnerships team and is responsible for coaching, teambuilding and performance management.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
