The opportunity

The Cat Ranch is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit sanctuary caring for more than 150 cats through medical care, shelter, enrichment and daily attention. We provide lifelong care for cats who need it and help cats find adoptive homes when that is the right outcome for them.

We are looking for a hands-on Executive Director to lead daily operations, support our four staff members and volunteers, and partner with the Board of Directors to strengthen the organization. This is an on-site leadership role for someone who can move between practical sanctuary needs, team coordination, fundraising and planning.

Our priorities are sustainable care for current residents, a stronger and more consistent adoption program, and rescue activity that grows only as staffing, space, veterinary support and funding allow.

What you will lead

Sanctuary operations and team support

• Oversee daily sanctuary operations, animal care coordination, facilities and volunteer coverage, working with staff, volunteers and veterinary partners to support animal welfare.
• Recruit, train and support volunteers and staff as needed; clarify responsibilities, strengthen routines and help the team manage competing priorities.
• Maintain practical systems and records that support nonprofit requirements and appropriate animal care standards.

Adoptions and responsible growth

• Build on the existing adoption program with the Board, staff and volunteers, improving its consistency and supporting suitable placements.
• Develop a realistic plan for more consistent rescue work while protecting the care of current residents and staying within available capacity.

Fundraising and financial management

• Lead fundraising through individual donors, grants, events and community partnerships, with Board support.
• Work with the Board on the budget, financial oversight and resource planning so programs and commitments remain sustainable.

Community relationships and Board partnership

• Build relationships with veterinary providers, animal welfare organizations and local partners that support care, adoptions and fundraising.
• Report regularly to the Board on operations, finances, fundraising, animal welfare and progress against agreed priorities. Lead day-to-day work within the approved budget and delegated operational authority.

What you bring

• An organized, dependable leadership style, clear communication and the ability to manage several priorities while remaining hands-on.
• A strong commitment to animal welfare and to supporting the people who provide daily care.
• Comfort partnering with a board of directors and improving systems as the organization grows.
• Relevant experience in nonprofit management, animal welfare, shelter operations or a related field is preferred. Fundraising and grant-writing experience are valuable.
• A valid driver’s license and the ability to work on site in the Babcock Ranch / Southwest Florida area.

Compensation and work arrangement

The full-time annual base salary range is $50,000–$65,000, depending on experience. Higher compensation may be considered for an exceptional candidate. We are seeking a full-time Executive Director. An interim part-time arrangement may be considered to provide short-term support while we work toward full-time leadership; its scope, hours and prorated compensation would be agreed separately.
