Do you thrive in a collaborative environment where precision, organization, and people-centered problem-solving come together to keep an arts organization running smoothly? Are you detail-oriented yet adaptable, equally comfortable managing spreadsheets as you are supporting staff? Join a highly accomplished and passionate team dedicated to bringing music to life across our community in the role of Accounting & HR Manager with the Richmond Symphony.

Recognized for artistic quality and advancement, community engagement, and innovative programming, the Richmond Symphony is committed to making music accessible and meaningful for all. From mainstage performances to education programs that inspire the next generation, every member of our team plays a vital role in realizing our vision of changing lives through the power of music.

    What exactly would I do?

The Accounting & HR Manager reports directly to the Assistant Director of Finance & HR and works closely with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and accountability across the Symphony’s financial and human resources operations.

In this role, you will process invoices, payments, and reconciliations, maintain vendor and employee records, and support the organization’s monthly financial close with consistent attention to detail. You will manage payroll and benefits administration, maintain personnel data and compliance reporting, and ensure all processes align with internal controls and organizational policies.

This position bridges finance and people operations—supporting day-to-day accounting functions while advancing the Symphony’s core values of passion, inclusivity, innovation, welcoming and quality, and fostering an engaging and reliable HR environment for all employees.

What qualifications and skills do I need?

A bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, with demonstrated experience in human resources administration, is required, along with at least three years of full-time experience in accounting, HR, or administrative operations. Candidates must have direct experience processing complex payroll within a payroll system such as CentrallyHR, ADP, or a similar platform. Experience with invoice management systems such as Concur or Bill.com is also required.

Advanced proficiency in both QuickBooks (Desktop and Online) and Microsoft Excel is essential. Familiarity with HRIS and benefits administration systems is preferred. Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism and discretion. You should be comfortable handling confidential information, meeting deadlines, and maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

    Compensación

Benefits include health, dental, telemedicine, vision, disability and instrument insurance, a flexible spending or health savings account, flexible paid time off, sick leave, free parking, and a 403(b) plan. This job requires regular and consistent in-person work at the Symphony offices in downtown Richmond, though a combination of in-person (60% on site) and remote (40%) working schedule is available with approval of your manager. Evening and weekend work is expected and provides opportunities to experience and support the Symphony’s inspiring performances and community events.
