    Organization Description:

    Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides “a different kind of healing” to thousands of children with serious illnesses and their families annually – all completely free of charge. For many of these children and families, Hole in the Wall provides multiple Camp experiences throughout the year at the facility in Ashford, Conn, in dozens of hospitals and clinics, directly in camper homes and communities and through other outreach activities across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

    Position Description:

    Our Housekeeping Specialist is an important member of our facilities team. This role is responsible for the overall cleanliness of its Camp programming site. It includes opportunities for leadership and collaboration amongst staff colleagues, volunteers, and outside contractors, all to ensure housing, offices & program spaces are cleaned to expected organizational standards.

    Our Housekeeping Specialist can expect to…

    • Take direction from team leader as well as work independently.
    • Clean and maintain all buildings.
    • Assist with the maintenance and ensure application of best practices for housekeeping work.
    • Work to ensure that best practices are understood and modeled by any seasonal and/or contracted housekeeping staff members.
    • Manage the delivery, distribution, and then laundry pick-up of all linens for the site.
    • Ensure all assigned buildings are stocked with janitorial tools and supplies.
    • Assist with maintaining inventory of cleaning supplies, linens and other building necessities, reporting.
    • Gather and respond to housekeeping supply requests when present during programming.
    • Work with and in support of volunteer groups as requested.
    • Remain familiar with site calendar and monitor for scheduled vendor service and/or deliveries (e.g. supplemental laundry, trash, recycling, etc.), as well preparation for guests and visitors (e.g. staff from other locations, board members, etc.)
    • Learn and utilize applicable software and online platforms necessary for project management and/or org participation and general expectations (e.g. work email, facilities support requests, file sharing, payroll systems, compliance trainings, etc.).
    • Through positive leadership, demonstration the core values of the organization.
    • Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

    Our Housekeeping Specialist should have…

    • Previous experience in housekeeping in a hospitality or business setting preferred.
    • The ability to establish positive relationships with a variety of people in multicultural environments.
    • An ability to remain organized and to manage time effectively.
    • A proactive approach to work and an ability to multi-task and prioritize work day/projects independently.
    • Effective interpersonal skills and a willingness to engage and become a part of our residential programming community.
    • A familiarity with key software resources (e.g. Microsoft Office 365 Suite, Teams, etc.) and adaptable digital skills.
    • A willingness to work a varying schedule that follows along with seasonal programming needs and may include: 1) extended hours, 2) evening work, 3) weekend work, 4) on-call hours.
    • A valid Driver's license and driving record which meets HITWG insurance carrier requirements. Ability to travel to assigned worksites.
    • Must pass national and state background checks for childcare work.
    • A willingness and ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 9 hours.)
    • A willingness and ability to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 25 pounds.
    • Must be willing to prioritize camper safety by providing your vaccination and physical records to the medical team and getting additional vaccinations, such as the flu shot, on a yearly basis.
