    Descripción

Are you interested in living and working in the Amazon rainforest?

At Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi (CIWY), we are looking for a Sanctuary Administrator to join our wildlife sanctuaries Ambue Ari and/or Jacj Cuisi, becoming an active part of a team deeply committed to conservation and animal welfare.

    General Information

Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi (CIWY) is a Bolivian non-governmental organization with over 30 years of experience, nationally and internationally recognized for its work in the rescue, care, rehabilitation, and protection of wildlife. CIWY has been a pioneer in Bolivia in providing comprehensive care to animals affected by illegal wildlife trafficking, poaching, forest fires, and other human-driven threats.

Founded in 1992, CIWY has given a second chance at life to thousands of animals while also promoting environmental education and awareness programs across the country. The organization manages two wildlife sanctuaries, Ambue Ari and Jacj Cuisi, which are key spaces for biodiversity conservation and close collaboration with local communities.

    About the Position

The Sanctuary Administrator is responsible for managing and overseeing the administrative processes that support the financial and operational activities of CIWY’s sanctuaries. The position reports directly to the President of CIWY and supervises the permanent sanctuary staff, ensuring the smooth day-to-day functioning of administrative operations.

This role works closely with other Sanctuary Administrators and different teams, actively contributing to the strengthening of volunteer management and the organization’s financial sustainability.

    Requirements

We are seeking a highly adaptable person, willing to support multiple areas, including tasks that may go beyond strictly assigned duties. As a small NGO, CIWY operates in a flexible and collaborative way, prioritizing practical solutions and continuous improvement. The work is dynamic and does not follow a traditional fixed schedule.

    Also, the position requires:

    • A bachelor’s degree in a related field or relevant experience in administration or a similar area
    • Strong skills in Word and Excel, and general confidence using computers
    • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English
    • Comfort and competence managing people from different nationalities
    • An innovative mindset and motivation to improve organizational processes
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Good organizational abilities and willingness to work in an international team
    • Tolerance and adaptability to work under pressure and in occasionally chaotic environments
    • Patience and the ability to structure daily work effectively
    • Ability to manage and optimize expenses
    • Quick decision-making under pressure
    • Capacity to work, communicate, and collaborate with people of different ages and cultures
    • Respect for and adaptation to Bolivian culture and laws
    • A Bolivian or international driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one)

    Responsibilities

    • Manage budgeting, financial forecasts, and cash flow for the Sanctuary
    • Conduct data analysis to improve budget control and marketing strategies
    • Plan and develop projects and activities aligned with CIWY’s mission, values, and objectives
    • Identify ways to increase income and collaborate with a UK-based organization that supports fundraising
    • Represent CIWY in local community meetings and maintain effective communication with communities, authorities, and stakeholders
    • Maintain regular and effective communication with other sanctuaries and the President of CIWY
    • Prepare monthly and annual reports on finances, general management, and sanctuary progress
    • Collect volunteer package fees upon arrival
    • Supervise staff contracts, payroll, and performance evaluations
    • Support permanent staff in their duties and responsibilities
    • Ensure work is completed on time and in line with CIWY policies and procedures
    • Ensure monthly reports from coordinators are submitted to the Director or President
    • Ensure staff and volunteers comply with sanctuary rules
    • Develop, review, and maintain internal policies and procedures for staff and volunteers
    • Translate meetings, announcements, and talks for volunteers
    • Write and translate documents (Spanish–English)
    • Prepare quarterly content for the CIWY newsletter
    • Publish regular updates on CIWY social media platforms
    • Manage weekly purchases of construction materials and food supplies
    • Design and implement souvenir sales
    • Organize and support the second-hand shop
    • Manage the operation of the Sanctuary’s private café
    • Oversee living conditions and accommodation for staff and volunteers
    • Be willing to assist with animal care when volunteer numbers are low

    Time Commitment

The Administrator must commit to a one-year contract.

Working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including breakfast and lunch breaks.

You will have one day off per week and one week of vacation every six months.

    Compensation

Wildlife rescue centers in Bolivia do not receive financial support from the government. Despite this context, CIWY makes ongoing efforts to provide financial support to its team.

The position includes a monthly stipend of 2,000 Bs. (approximately USD 300), plus meals and accommodation included.

    Conditions

At the Ambue Ari and Jacj Cuisi sanctuaries, CIWY provides shared accommodation and shared bathrooms.

Meals are primarily vegetarian/vegan, included during the stay, and may vary slightly depending on the sanctuary’s logistics and local conditions.

Both sanctuaries offer Wi-Fi at the office, limited mobile data signal, cold showers, and limited electricity.

    Compensación

    Accomodation and meals covered.

    Nivel de Idiomas

    Spanish and English.
