    Company Description

    The World Cube Association (WCA) is the governing body for twisty puzzle competitions, including the Rubik’s Cube. Founded in 2004, the WCA is a volunteer-led US-registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to grow the sport of competitive speedcubing around the world. The WCA recognizes competitions, maintains official world records, and regulates competition rules. Since its founding, the WCA has grown considerably, sanctioning competitions in 115 different regions with over 200,000 unique competitors. The WCA is at a pivotal point in its growth trajectory and is looking for its first Executive Officer.

    Role Description

    The World Cube Association is seeking a remarkable and visionary Executive Officer to join our vibrant community and strengthen it from within.

    This role offers the chance to shape the future of competitive speedcubing in conjunction with our passionate volunteers and dynamic Board of Directors. You will excel in a geographically distributed environment, taking ownership of the organization's strategic programs and the oversight of operations, Volunteer management, external relations, and financial performance. You will be responsible for maintaining key strategic alliances and developing new collaborative partnerships.

    Under the guidance of the Board and reporting to the Chair, you will be instrumental in delivering the WCA’s mission amidst today's opportunities and challenges. This includes managing all aspects of the organization’s operations, from marketing and communications and sponsor relations to policy creation and financial oversight. You will strategically lead our dedicated volunteer resources, building on the WCA's rich history.

    Success in this role requires a strategic leader who can build the WCA's capacity and leverage its unique position as an emerging sporting organization through effective collaboration with volunteer teams, industry partners, and community stakeholders.

    Key Responsibilities

    There are several areas of responsibility, as described below.

    Strategic Leadership

    • Demonstrate enthusiastic and effective leadership, be a fitting representative of the WCA, our values, and our vision
    • Lead strategic planning (with the Board of Directors)
    • Responsible for delivering on the objectives of the Strategic Plan and for the overall success and future sustainability of the WCA
    • Provide clear and consistent direction, models appropriate behaviors, supports, and enables a high level of performance by staff and Volunteers, in positioning the WCA to achieve its goals
    • Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging organizational culture

    Financial Management

    • Manage the WCA’s budget and financial resources
    • Together with the WCA Financial Committee develop an annual budget for the Board approval and track progress
    • Financial reports are analyzed for anomalies and risks managed and reported to the Board
    • Oversee fundraising and donor relations
    • Ensure financial stability and sustainability

    Operations Management

    • Oversee day-to-day operations and management of paid contractors and Volunteers
    • Oversee and supervise relationships with the WCA’s Regional Organizations
    • Provide timely reporting and information to the Board, including reporting on progress against the Strategic Plan and identifying emerging issues
    • Plan for, develop, and implement change in relation to Volunteers, systems, processes, infrastructure, and technology as needed
    • Negotiate contracts on behalf of the WCA
    • Organize and manage the WCA annual members’ meeting

    Governance and Board Relations

    • Report to the Board and maintain a positive working environment
    • Ensure that the Board is provided with sufficient accurate information on a timely basis, to enable it to fulfil its governance responsibilities
    • Build consensus and support among Board members
    • Work within the WCA’s mission, values, motions, and policies to implement and manage good governance

    Program Development

    • Provide timely reporting and information to the Board, including reporting on progress against the Strategic Plan and identifying emerging issues
    • Oversee the development and implementation of programs of all committees and teams
    • Evaluate program effectiveness and make necessary adjustments
    • Identify new program opportunities

    External Relations

    • Maintain and build on existing strategic partnerships
    • Identify relevant stakeholders for business development opportunities that can support and assist the WCA in new opportunities
    • Advocate for the WCA’s mission and goals
    • Represent the WCA as required, including attendance at community events and to the media

    Qualifications for this Position

    • Have previous experience as an Executive Officer or in a similar leadership role within a nonprofit.
    • Have previous experience with managing and supervising a large cohort of Volunteers
    • Highly skilled in strategic planning and organizational leadership
    • Experience with financial oversight, budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting
    • Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills
    • Have experience developing and successfully implementing strategic plans that enable sustainable maturation and organizational growth
    • A track record of working effectively with not for profit volunteer Boards
    • Understand the speedcubing community

    Compensación

    Hours: 40 hours per week, Part Time considered

    Location: 100% Remote. Work from anywhere. US citizenship or work visa required

    Reports to: Chair, WCA Board of Directors

    Direct reports: Up to 5 direct reports

    Compensation: $80,000 - $120,000 USD annually
