    Executive Director (Part-Time)

    Blue-Tailed Skinks Youth Mountain Bike Club

    Sebastopol, CA | Sonoma County

    $45,000–$55,000 annually | 20–30 hours/week | Flexible, hybrid

    About the Blue-Tailed Skinks

    The Blue-Tailed Skinks Youth Mountain Bike Club is a Sonoma County nonprofit dedicated to helping pre-schoolers through fifth graders thrive in the sport of mountain biking alongside peers in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment. Through our Scampers program, seasonal clinics, summer camps, and trail-based adventures, we serve hundreds of local youth each year with a focus on fun, skill progression, confidence, and stewardship.

    We are hiring our first-ever Executive Director to help us grow sustainably, strengthen our programs, and expand access to youth cycling across Sonoma County.

    Position Summary

    The Executive Director (ED) is the organization’s key leader and steward, responsible for guiding day-to-day operations while building systems that support safe, joyful, and well-run programs. This role blends program leadership, operations, communications, volunteer coordination, and community partnerships.

    This is a part-time role (20–30 hrs/week) with seasonal fluctuations. Percentages below are approximate and may shift throughout the year.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Leadership (~40%)

    • Oversee planning and execution of Scampers sessions, clinics, and summer camps
    • Ensure safety protocols, incident procedures, and supervision standards
    • Coordinate permits, schedules, rosters, locations, and family communication
    • Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteer coaches and helpers

    Operations & Administration (~25%)

    • Manage registration systems, calendars, workflows, and SOPs
    • Track attendance, waivers, payments, and risk-management documentation
    • Oversee equipment inventory and basic logistics
    • Maintain compliance with insurance and youth safety requirements

    Community & Volunteer Engagement (~15%)

    • Build strong relationships with families, volunteers, and partners
    • Lead clear, warm parent communications
    • Represent BTS at community events and partner meetings

    Fundraising & Organizational Support (~20%)

    • Support board-led fundraising campaigns, sponsorships, and grants
    • Collaborate with the treasurer on budgets and financial reporting
    • Maintain organized digital files, metrics, and records

    Qualifications

    We encourage candidates with related experience to apply, even if they do not meet every qualification listed.

    Required

    • 3+ years in youth programs, outdoor education, camps, recreation, or similar
    • Strong organizational and communication skills
    • Ability to lead volunteers and manage programs independently
    • Availability for some weekends and seasonal evenings
    • Clean background check (Livescan)

    Preferred

    • Experience with youth cycling or mountain biking programs
    • Familiarity with Sonoma County parks or trail systems
    • Small nonprofit operations experience
    • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
