    Descripción

    Introduction

Starting in 1858, the LCU Fund for Women’s Education (LCU Fund) began helping women secure safe, affordable housing in New York City; more recently, through its innovative grant program launched in 2000, the LCU Fund has awarded nearly $18M to 4,000 scholars across 35 educational institutions to alleviate housing costs for women students of limited financial means enabling them to focus on degree completion.

While the LCU Fund has evolved from providing housing to organizing as a private grant-making foundation, its mission has never changed: to address the alarming imbalance between New York City’s extraordinary educational opportunities and the shortage of low-cost housing.

    Background and Objectives

Since 2019, we have surveyed scholars and alumnae every three years to understand their needs, achievements, and challenges. This data shapes our funding priorities, and guides our communication, outreach, and engagement with partner schools, scholars, alumnae, and other funders.

Survey questions focus on college completion, graduation rates, education attainment, employment, income, affordability, housing insecurity, unmet needs, community engagement, and demographics. This year's survey also evaluates the impact of recent cuts and changes to Federal programs, including student loan forgiveness.

The LCU Fund is seeking a Technical Writer (Consultant) to create a visually appealing report (seven to ten pages) and three one-pagers with graphics to convey complex ideas to a broader audience including grantee schools, donors, and like-minded funders. The LCU Fund expects to meet with the consultant at least once (remotely) before the work starts and to review and comment on at least one draft report in advance of the final submission.

    Specific tasks include:

    • Review raw survey data (estimates ~400 survey respondents)
    • Assimilate data; identify key findings and themes
    • Create a report that encapsulates the survey data; clearly conveying new ideas, themes, and recommendations
    • Design three visually appealing one-pagers with graphics

    Desired Skills

    • Excellent copywriting, language, writing and revision skills
    • Ability to create, assimilate and covey complex material in a concise and effective manner
    • Experience with organizing, describing, and analyzing survey data
    • Demonstrated graphic design and layout skills
