    About Our School:

Inter-American School (IAS) is a Christian, English language immersion school located in the beautiful highland valley of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. We offer U.S. curriculum and instruction to students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. IAS was established in 1961, and has continued to grow and serve the educational needs of students from both international and local families. We strive to inspire students in academic achievement and to provide an authentic Christian environment that encourages students to demonstrate Christ-like behavior and be active disciples in their community.

Teachers enjoy teaching small class sizes (typically under 15 students), working in a close-knit community of fellow Christians and experiencing the world's best climate–as Guatemala is known as the "Land of Eternal Spring"!

Teachers at IAS are technically volunteer missionaries, but receive a monthly stipend for living expenses as well as the benefits outlined below:

    • Group health insurance and life insurance plans.
    • Generous paid time off on a U.S. academic calendar that runs mid-August to the end of May. There are breaks for Thanksgiving, Christmas (3 weeks), Easter (1 week), and other holidays as well as two full months off each summer.
    • Travel benefit to visit your home country each summer.
    • Free daily transportation for teachers who live within central neighborhoods.
    • Financial and logistical coverage for all visa processing, fees and necessary travel.
    • Free school tuition for school-aged children.
    • Professional development funds to be used toward Spanish language lessons, further training and/or the payment of student loans.
    • Personalized guidance on fundraising if you wish to supplement the stipend funds. The stipend continues throughout summer breaks for returning staff.

    About This Position:

We are looking for a high school math and/or science teacher to join our dynamic team for the 2025-2026 school year. Ideal candidates are passionate about our mission to promote academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment and meet the following qualifications:

    • Teachers must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
    • Teachers must have a bachelor's degree. A degree in education, math or science is preferred, but not required.
    • Teachers must speak English as their first language. Candidates from North America are strongly preferred due to visa requirements.
    • Teachers should be willing to plan and teach the equivalent of 5 courses. There are 8 periods in the school day, which runs from 7:30am to 3:30pm for all staff. Typical math classes could include Algebra I, Algebra II, geometry, statistics, accounting, pre-calculus, and/or calculus. Typical science classes could include biology, chemistry, and physics. We are open to hiring one science teacher and one math teacher, or having two combined math/science positions, depending on the candidates.
