    Descripción

    The Children's Advocacy Center of Suffolk County (CAC) unites public, private and community partners to promote safety, healing, and justice for children exposed to violence and abuse. The CAC works closely with an array of agencies to coordinate high-quality investigations of alleged child sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, and exploitation; provide support and services to children and families; offer specialized training for a diverse range of audiences; and to prevent child abuse in our community.

    In 2024, alone, the CAC’s Outreach and Training Program reached over 4,400 individuals to help strengthen our community's capacity to prevent, recognize, and respond to child abuse and exploitation. Supervised by the CAC Training Manager, the Community Engagement Coordinator will conduct outreach to engage community-based organizations and youth-serving programs with the CAC, facilitate educational workshops, and increase equitable access to trauma-informed child abuse prevention and response resources.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Conduct outreach, engage the community, facilitate community dialogue, and deliver training to;
    • Reduce stigma related to child abuse
    • Promote child abuse victim identification
    • Engage and build community capacity to connect child abuse victims to trauma-informed multidisciplinary interventions
    • Increase equitable access and use of trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment
    • Monitor CAC data trends to identify training & outreach needs and impact, in collaboration with the CAC Training and Outreach Manager;
    • Conduct outreach to community-based organizations, schools, and youth-serving programs to provide information about CAC services and training opportunities, in accordance with the CAC’s annual Training & Outreach Program Plan;
    • Initiate and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, schools, & programs;
    • Identify, attend, and represent the CAC at relevant community-based meetings, events, and county-wide collaboratives
    • Coordinate and participate in training and community engagement events (including engaging CAC staff to support outreach events, coordinating and scheduling, staffing, identifying equipment needs, preparing tabling materials, conducting follow-up, etc.);
    • Assist during the CAC’s in-person and virtual trainings (managing technology, managing Q & A, administering training evaluations, etc.);
    • Support quarterly Multidisciplinary Team Member Orientation training logistics;
    • Research, identify, and advertise monthly professional development opportunities for CAC staff;
    • Deliver CAC training curricula on topics including Recognizing & Responding to Child Abuse and Introduction to CAC Services, to audiences of professionals, community members, and caregivers;
    • Update and develop training materials and community outreach resources (brochures, handouts, etc.), as needed;
    • Keep thorough, up-to-date records of CAC outreach activities;
    • Participate on the CAC Social Media Team to plan, design, and share messaging across social media platforms;
    • Support and participate in Training and Outreach program special projects, including the development and implementation of a CAC Community Advisory Committee, as needed

    GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Be willing and able to work occasional evenings and weekends;

    • Additional duties, as required.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Passion for cultivating professional relationships with CAC partner agencies to build a stronger multidisciplinary response and safety net for children and families experiencing abuse;
    • Passion for building an empowered community where all children and families have equitable access to safety, healing, and justice;
    • 3-5 years of experience organizing and coordinating trainings, outreach efforts, and/or community engagement events;
    • Engaging public speaker with demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse audiences;
    • Demonstrated success in developing and presenting materials for varied learning styles;
    • Comfort talking about sensitive topics and facilitating inclusive conversations;
    • Proven ability to conduct outreach and engage new audiences including professionals, community members, caregivers, and youth;
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills;
    • Ability to organize multiple tasks simultaneously and work collaboratively and effectively on a team;
    • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

    DESIRED

    • Fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Cape Verdean Creole;
    • Experience delivering trainings and/or workshops;
    • Familiarity with the dynamics and impacts of abuse and interpersonal violence;
    • Resident of Suffolk County or connections to Suffolk County neighborhoods;
    • Familiarity with Suffolk County social service, medical, mental health, and civil legal systems;
    • Working knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn;
    • Graphic design skills.
