    The Lead Grant Revenue Accountant ensures timely and accurate reporting and recording of grant revenues and manages receivable accounting for the Society. This position requires a thorough understanding of grant revenue recognition from restricted government and private funders. The Lead Grant Revenue Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager and supports the accounting team comprised of four accountants by ensuring adherence to internal control policies and procedures and accounting best practices. This position will also work closely with other Finance Department teams including Accounts Payable, Payroll, Grants and Contracts and Financial Planning and Analysis.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    Grant Revenue Accounting

    • Responsible for monthly recording of a portfolio of grant revenue and receivables
    • Support the Accounting Manager and Director of Accounting with refining, optimizing, and implementing internal systems and processes regarding existing grants and contracts procedures
    • Coordinate with the Grants and Contracts Unit regularly to assess collectability of receivables
    • Assist in supervising the monthly accounts receivable accrual journal entries and application of payments to the A/R ledger
    • Perform grant-related post-award functions, including invoice tracking, payment tracking, financial reporting, reconciliations, and year-end accruals
    • Review invoices and provide general ledger program codes, when appropriate, for proper accounting
    • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports on grants for internal management purposes
    • Coordinate with the appropriate staff within the General Accounting unit to prepare monthly, quarterly and annual journal entries to ensure timely and accurate recording of grant revenues
    • Maintain and review grant revenue and receivable schedules for all contracts including public and private funds
    • Serve as an internal liaison between General Accounting, Grants and Contracts and Financial Analysis & Planning Units within the Finance team to assist with overall grant compliance
    • Ensure that contract expenses are reflected and adjusted properly in the Financial Edge (FE) accounting system.

    Audits and Ad-Hoc Projects

    • Collaborate with the internal finance team and external auditors to complete the Federal Single Audit process
    • Assist with individual program audit requests, as well as the Society’s year-end audit

    Professional Development and Other Duties as Assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required qualifications:

    • BA/BS degree required, with a focus in Finance, Accounting, or related field
    • 5+ years of related experience
    • Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze large volumes of data
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
    • Strong understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Master's degree in finance, accounting, business administration or a related field
    • Experience with Financial Edge, Vena and/or Oracle NetSuite preferred
    • Experience with government grant management portals such as the NYC PASSPort system
    • Experience with fiscal, compliance and program audits
    • Demonstrated knowledge of non-profit grants and contracts management, billings and program reporting
    • Experience in developing and implementing financial systems, tools, structures, and processes
    • Knowledge of best practices in grants and contracts strategy and process improvement
    • Experience with cross-departmental collaboration and internal communications

    Physical, environment, travel, and other duties required:

    • Mostly sedentary, significant time using a computer and monitor; communicating and meeting using video
    • For positions noted as essential, this will require either remote or in-person work during times of closure or otherwise non-typical business hours which may include evenings and weekends and during unforeseen events such as inclement weather or poor air quality conditions.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS

    The salary range represents a good faith estimate of the range we expect to pay for this role. The actual salary offered may vary depending on many factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles.

    Salary Range: $96,000 - $101,000
