Budgeting & Accounting Consultant

SUMMARY

Data2X is seeking proposals from qualified firms or individual consultants to provide short-term budgeting and accounting services to the organization. Under the oversight of the Executive Director, the selected consultant will work in partnership with the Manager of Grants and Finance to streamline and standardize Data2X’s existing budget and related management practices.

Data2X is a collaborative technical and advocacy platform dedicated to improving the quality, availability, and use of gender data to make a practical difference in the lives of women and girls worldwide. Data2X works with UN agencies, governments, civil society, academics,

and the private sector to close gender data gaps, promote expanded and unbiased gender data collection, and use gender data to improve policies, strategies, and decision-making.

Data2X is hosted by the United Nations Foundation (UNF) and operates with generous support from various domestic and international foundations.

CONSULTANT SERVICES

All activities will be completed in collaboration with Data2X and in close partnership with the Manager of Grants and Finance. Data2X utilizes Microsoft Excel as its primary budget management application. Key services to be provided by the consultant include:

• Developing expenditure recording and control processes using generally recognized accounting standards.
• Integrating Data2X revenue and UNF overhead into the primary operating budget.
• Creating an overview dashboard that displays budget, actuals, and variance by key internal and external categories (e.g., calendar year, funder reporting period, workstream, etc.).
• Building Excel formulas and functions into the operating budget.
• Developing Excel templates and providing training and support for running budget scenarios and projections.
• Advising on the utilization of existing UNF systems (i.e., NetSuite, Salesforce, Concur) for day-to-day budget management, including running reports and pulling expense data into Excel.
• Advising on budget closeout timelines, processes, and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education and experience in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or related field. Professional certifications (CPA, CMA) preferred.
• Strong understanding of 501(c)(3) financial principles, accounting practices, and budgeting methodologies.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and NetSuite Financial Management system.
• Understanding of how financial data from Salesforce and Concur are integrated into NetSuite preferred.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data, identify issues, and develop solutions.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively explain complex information and processes to diverse stakeholders.
• Experience supporting non-profit organizations to manage budgets with multiple funding streams and reporting requirements.
• Prior non-profit budget management consulting experience preferred.

TIMELINE & COMPENSATION

The estimated project timeline is August 2025 through October 2025. Exact dates, number of consultancy days, and rate will be discussed with Data2X at the time of interview.

LOCATION

This consultancy will undertake all work remotely in collaboration with Data2X staff operating in US Eastern Time.
