Managing Director/Producing Director

CounterPulse is hiring a Managing Director and a Producing Director to share executive leadership of the organization.

After a year of reduced operations and a community visioning process, CounterPulse reopened to the public in October and is rebuilding toward full programming by spring 2027. Through that process, the Board chose a two-person leadership team. Shared leadership spreads the load more sustainably than a single executive, and it brings a wider range of skills to the work.

The Managing Director will be someone who loves and understands systems, both organizational and financial, and gets real satisfaction from building the structures that let artists and staff do their best work.

The Producing Director will be a seasoned producer with a passion for supporting and mentoring experimental artists, engaging diverse communities, and integrating arts into a neighborhood.

Both directors report to the Board and are supported by a part-time technical director, program associate, facilities assistant, and contracted finance manager. Both positions are permanent and full-time (36 hours), based at our Tenderloin space, with a salary of $85,000 and full benefits. The anticipated start date is January 2027. We especially encourage applicants connected to San Francisco's experimental performance community, including those with nontraditional career paths.
