    Job Title: Senior People Operations Manager

    Reports to: Senior Operations Director

    Start Date: ASAP

    Salary range: $90,000-$120,000

    Location: Remote with occasional in-person time

    Greenlight America is the leading grassroots campaign force powering the nation's clean energy transition at the local level. Our team supports local residents and organizations working to get clean energy built in their communities. Since our founding in 2023, we have enabled volunteers to advance thousands of megawatts' worth of utility-scale projects across the country, helping hundreds of communities to say yes to the benefits of a clean energy future.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Senior People Operations Manager serves as a senior member of the Operations team and a key partner to the Senior Operations Director, providing day-to-day leadership across the People Operations function and supporting the oversight and development of People Operations staff. This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role that covers the full employee lifecycle, from recruiting and onboarding through performance management and employee relations, while also stepping in to support broader operational needs when needed.

    This role is ideal for an experienced People Operations professional who is equally comfortable advising on complex employee matters, building scalable HR systems, and managing the day-to-day execution of the People Operations function. The successful candidate will exercise strong independent judgment and anticipate organizational needs. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a nonprofit setting, a deep commitment to the mission of accelerating the clean energy transition, and a track record of successfully supporting organizational growth and development. They should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

    The position is remote and reports to the Senior Operations Director.

    PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    HR/People Operations

    • Provide day-to-day guidance, oversight, and mentorship to People Operations staff, ensuring work is completed accurately, consistently, and on time.
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to staff on HR matters, including benefits, policies, employee questions, and conflict resolution.
    • Advise managers on employee relations, performance management, corrective action, leave, accommodations, and application of organizational policies.
    • Identify employee relations and compliance risks and recommend appropriate courses of action to the Senior Operations Director.
    • Lead complex employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, performance improvement plans, and investigations.
    • Manage compensation administration, internal equity reviews, promotions, and other employee lifecycle decisions.
    • Develop, maintain, and recommend updates to HR policies, procedures, and internal practices.
    • Develop scalable People Operations processes, documentation, and SOPs.
    • Oversee HR training and benefits administration, onboarding and offboarding processes, performance reviews, and HRIS system(s) and maintain accurate employee records and documentation.
    • Maintain knowledge of emerging trends, best practices, and regulatory updates in human resources to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

    Recruiting & Talent Acquisition

    • Partner with hiring managers to ensure a smooth and equitable hiring process.
    • Lead the full-cycle recruiting process, from job scoping to offer negotiation, ensuring a diverse and inclusive candidate pipeline.
    • Build scalable recruiting processes and hiring manager toolkits that support organizational growth.
    • Manage external recruiter relationships.

    Training & Development

    • Support the planning and execution of supervisor effectiveness initiatives, including facilitating supervisor meetings and trainings and developing related tools and resources, in partnership with the Senior Operations Director and other organizational leaders.

    Culture & Engagement

    • Develop initiatives to strengthen culture, engagement, and retention, including staff surveys, recognition programs, and internal communications.
    • Lead the People Operations components of staff retreats, engagement events, and other organization-wide gatherings in partnership with the broader Operations team.

    EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    We are especially interested in candidates with the following qualifications:

    • 4+ years experience of relevant professional experience in human resources or people operations.
    • Experience with multi-state employment compliance.
    • Demonstrated ability to build, document, and improve scalable HR processes and systems.
    • Strong judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential employee matters.
    • Experience independently managing complex employee relations matters.
    • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to drive work from conception through implementation.
    • Preferred: experience working in support of clean energy
