    Office/Department

The Do Good Institute serves as the catalyst to transform the University of Maryland into the nation’s first Do Good Campus, where students are inspired to take action and spur innovations and solutions that tackle today’s social issues. The Institute, housed in the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, provides education, opportunities, and resources to develop the next generation of nonprofit leaders, social innovators, and civic-minded students.

The Digital Media and Communications Coordinator supports the communications, marketing, digital media, and branding priorities of the Do Good Institute and reports to the Senior Communications Manager. The Coordinator works as part of the Do Good Institute’s communications team and collaborates with members of the School of Public Policy, the University of Maryland’s Office of Strategic Communications, campus communicators, students, faculty, staff, alumni, community partners, and external vendors.

    Position Description

As part of the Do Good Institute team, the Digital Media and Communications Coordinator supports the development and execution of communications, marketing, digital media, and branding strategies that advance the Institute’s mission, programs, initiatives, and impact. Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, the Coordinator develops and produces compelling multimedia and digital content—including video, photography, social media, web content, newsletters, and other communications materials—to engage students, alumni, faculty, staff, campus partners, community partners, and external audiences. The position requires strong storytelling, research, writing, editing, multimedia production, and project management skills, as well as the ability to translate complex ideas and programs into accessible and engaging content that supports student engagement, thought leadership, alumni engagement, partnership development, and the Institute’s broader communications priorities.

The Coordinator manages the Institute’s social media presence, newsletters, digital content, editorial calendar, and related analytics and audience insights, while supporting communications and digital engagement for the Do Good Plaza portfolio, including the Students Change the World Exhibit, Rings Exhibit, and Do Good Sign. The Coordinator collaborates with members of the School of Public Policy, the University of Maryland’s Office of Strategic Communications, campus communicators, students, faculty, staff, alumni, community partners, and external vendors to develop and execute communications and engagement initiatives, including major programs and events such as the Do Good Challenge. The Coordinator will also support emerging communications priorities, including the responsible use of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in digital media and communications.

The Communications Coordinator should be entrepreneurial in their work and will join a growing, talented team with ambitious goals. The Coordinator will collaborate with a variety of internal and external constituencies in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

This position does not have direct staff reports but may have the opportunity to schedule, train, and supervise temporary student workers or interns. This position requires occasional evening and weekend work and reports to the Senior Communications Manager.
