    The Breaking Barriers Collaborative (BBC) empowers Pacific Northwest businesses to accelerate equitable climate action through hands-on programs designed for businesses ready to lead the transition to a net-zero economy. Learn more about the initiative here.

    About the Opportunity

    The Breaking Barriers Collaborative is looking for a Director of Outreach who wants to use their superpowers of recruitment, strategy, communications, and outreach to help advance the vision and goals of the program through an equitable and inclusive perspective. This role will play an important position on the BBC team as they lead the development and implementation of strategies to recruit and enroll new participants in the BBC fleet electrification programs; build and manage trusting partnerships with corporate sponsors and community partners; oversee BBC’s external communications efforts; and providing thought-partnership for the BBC team.

    This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment; is energized by direct outreach to, and engagement with, businesses and other organizations; enjoys building partnerships with businesses, non-profits, and government agencies; as well as being a thought-partner on the transition to a net-zero economy.     Success Outcomes and Priorities

    Develop and Implement Recruitment Strategies for BBC’s Fleet Electrification Programs (40%)

    • Leads recruitment of businesses and other organizations to participate in BBC’s fleet electrification and other programs as required.
    • Utilizes a variety of tactics including digital communications, community and virtual presentations, and one-to-one meetings to cultivate potential participants.
    • Manages the entirety of the customer pipeline, from building awareness among prospective customers, to identifying qualified leads, to securing commitments to participate in the programs.
    • Builds recruitment strategies using data-informed approach to increase Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and socio-economically diverse businesses to participate in BBC programs.
    • Collaborates with BBC Program Managers to define and align characteristics of target participants for each program, and to identify qualified leads.
    • Aligns recruitment strategy with BBC’s and Climate Solutions’ overall strategy and equity commitments, ensuring outcomes center community needs and climate justice.

    Lead External Communication & Outreach to increase BBC awareness and community presence (25%)

    • Oversees the development and implementation of BBC’s multi-channel communication plan including: social media, program content creation, earned media, outreach materials, email communications, and blog posts.
    • Manages BBC’s external communications agency to deliver high quality materials in a timely manner and within budget.
    • Ensures communication and outreach plan is aligned with BBC’s values and Climate Solutions’ equity commitments.
    • Participates in industry and community events to cultivate BBC’s presence and to build trusting relationships and increase awareness of BBC and programmatic offerings, including BIPOC owned and socio-economically diverse businesses.

    Cultivating trusting relationships with Corporate Sponsors and Community Partners (20%)

    • Identifies and builds mutually beneficial relationships with Corporate Sponsors to financially support BBC's programming.
    • Cultivates trusting relationships with Community Partners to amplify BBC recruitment efforts and provide other support for BBC programs.
    • Defines features of BBC Sponsorship program and Community Partner programs, and creates messaging and marketing collateral to promote these programs.
    • Builds recruitment strategies using data-informed approach to increase BIPOC and socio-economically diverse businesses to participate in BBC programs.
    • Aligns partnership strategy with BBC’s and Climate Solutions’ strategy and equity commitments, ensuring outcomes center community needs and climate justice.

    Team Collaboration and Organizational Participation (10%)

    Database Development and Management (5%)

    • Works closely with the Technology Team to develop a recruitment and participant management system to support an exceptional experience for program participants, Sponsors, and Community Partners.
    • Uses Salesforce to manage engagement across all BBC programs, including sponsorships and community partners, and to support strategic planning for the BBC Program.
    • Provides guidance to the Program Coordinator to ensure data in Salesforce is up-to-date and complete.

You can make strategic tradeoffs between each of these tactics. You have experience managing external contractors, ideally communications agencies.
    • You are a great listener and communicator. You listen deeply to understand individuals’ concerns. You use your verbal and written communication skills to share how BBC offerings can meet participant/sponsor/community needs and address their concerns.
    • You understand the complexities of organization decision-making. You ask questions to understand the decision-making process within each organization, adjust your approach to navigate this, and are realistic about the timelines required for organizational decision-making.
    • You are a highly-skilled manager and supervisor of people. You set clear goals and expectations for staff members and provide support to achieve them. You build trusting relationships, provide clear and frequent feedback, and motivate staff to achieve their potential.
    • You are a strategic thinker that uses data to inform your decision-making process. You gather, interpret, and derive insights from qualitative and quantitative data to solve problems, evaluate performance, and inform strategies. You use surveys, reports, databases, or observations to strategize and make decisions.
    • You are adaptive and resilient. You stay focused amid shifting priorities, perspectives, and rejection. You have the ability to continue to find new ways and approaches to achieve your goals.

    Travel: This is a hybrid role based either in Seattle, WA, or Portland, OR, with a hybrid schedule (2-3x week) and external partner meetings, events, and trainings, as well as frequent travel within the region to meet with potential program participants, sponsors, and community partners, and to participate in industry and community events.
