WANTED: climate activists for June 2-3 in San Francisco
Street Outreach Worker — Microsoft Build 2026 Action Stand.earth | San Francisco, CA | Temporary / Gig | $25–$40/hr DOE
About Stand.earth Stand.earth is an international environmental organization running the Fossil Free Computing campaign, holding Big Tech accountable for the gap between their climate commitments and their actions. We've documented how Microsoft — despite pledging to be carbon-negative by 2030 — has watched its emissions rise 55% since 2020, signed deals with fossil fuel companies to power its data centers, and is now in talks to abandon its own clean energy commitments entirely.
About the Action Microsoft's Build 2026 developer conference brings CEO Satya Nadella and 2,500 of the world's top software engineers to Fort Mason Center in San Francisco on June 2–3. We will be outside — on public property, with permits — running a high-visibility campaign to make sure attendees, Microsoft employees, and the press covering the conference cannot miss our message: Microsoft data centers harm communities.
Tactics include flier and spoof program distribution along attendee walking routes, banner holds at the venue entrance, a live mural painting action on June 2, shore support for a Bay water action, and pre-conference hotel outreach in the Marina District on June 1.
Positions Available
Street Canvasser / Flier Distributor Distribute campaign materials and spoof conference programs along walking routes from Marina District hotels to Fort Mason. Engage attendees and passersby with friendly, informative conversations about Microsoft's fossil fuel expansion and Stand.earth's demands.
Banner & Sign Holder Hold and display large-format banners (10×10 ft) and signs (2×3 ft) at the venue entrance and key chokepoints along Marina Blvd during attendee arrival and throughout the conference day.
Mural Action Support ⭐ Assist artist David Solnit with the live "Microsoftville" mural painting action on the morning of June 2. The mural depicts the transformation of a thriving community into a fossil fuel-powered data center landscape. Support roles include materials handling, crowd engagement, and documentation. Prior mural or art experience a plus but not required.
