    Organizational Summary:

    Girls on the Run International (GOTRI) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. GOTR is a physical activity-based positive youth development program that is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to successfully navigate life experiences. Girls on the Run (GOTR) Greater Charlotte is one of the largest councils in network, serving Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Lincoln, Catawba and Cleveland counties.

    Position Summary:

    The Council Director for GOTR Greater Charlotte is responsible for developing, managing, and ensuring the success of the council. Drawing on strong leadership experience, the Council Director will lead a team of three program and engagement staff members and partner with an advisory board of directors to achieve organizational goals and expand the council’s presence and impact.

    As a department of GOTRI, the council benefits from centralized finance, HR, and technology support. This structure enables the Council Director to focus on program growth, fundraising, partnerships, and community engagement.

    The ideal candidate is energized by new challenges and skilled at executing a strategic vision, with a proven ability to identify opportunities, develop strategies, and successfully execute plans for organizational growth.

    Key Responsibilities

    Fundraising & Partnerships

    • Lead the creation and execution of a diversified annual fundraising plan with GOTR HQ, the Advisory Board, and the Fund Development Committee to increase contributed revenue.
    • Oversee and actively participate in fundraising efforts, including the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors and corporate sponsors, grants, special events, etc.
    • Serve as key relationship manager for all funders.
    • Cultivate a culture of philanthropy with staff and the Advisory Board.

    Leadership & Team Development

    • Develop the annual council budget and complete all council reporting requirements, closely managing monthly revenue and expenses.
    • Track progress towards organizational goals and GOTR’s Key Performance Indicators.
    • Utilize data to build and implement council operational and strategic plans that address current and future needs.
    • Partner with GOTR HQ and the GOTR Greater Charlotte Advisory Board to design and successfully implement plans for GOTR Charlotte’s transition to independent council status.
    • Create strategies to build a strong, inclusive environment for staff, volunteers, and participants.
    • Determine workforce planning strategy, set individual and council objectives, and evaluate staff performance.

    Community Development

    • Cultivate community relationships to support revenue, volunteer recruitment, and site development goals.
    • Establish and steward partnerships with organizations that are aligned with the Girls on the Run mission.
    • Develop relationships with the local media and serve as GOTR Greater Charlotte spokesperson to market the program and build additional community support.
    • Leverage knowledge of the local nonprofit landscape to strengthen GOTR Greater Charlotte’s presence strategically.

    Program Delivery & Quality

    • Lead program staff in developing strategies for site and participant growth.
    • Support program staff in deepening existing and establishing new relationships with school and community partners to extend reach while maintaining program quality.
    • Monitor program delivery, ensuring program fidelity, safety, belonging, and accessibility.
    • Oversee staff’s site, volunteer, and participant goals, as well as the successful execution of end-of-season 5k events.

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years progressive leadership, including staff supervision and budget responsibility
    • Proven fundraising success
    • Experience working with or supporting a Board of Directors
    • Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams
    • Outstanding communication skills across multiple environments and audiences
    • A strategic leader with strong critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and analytical skills
    • Demonstrated success implementing growth strategies
    • Experience managing budgets of $500,000+

    This is an exempt, full-time, hybrid position offering a compensation range of $80,000 - $82,000 annually, depending on experience.
