We educate and mobilize workers, unions, and community activists to advocate for and promote a healthy and safe workplace. The MassCOSH Immigrant Worker Center provides resources, training, and a space for immigrant workers to convene, collaborate, and become leaders in their workplaces and in policymaking, winning improvements in workplaces, across industries, and in policies that impact working conditions.

We’re seeking an Organizer for the Immigrant Worker Center (IWC), who will be responsible for engaging with immigrant workers, in low-wage jobs building relationships, and organizing them to join the IWC. The IWC Organizer will advocate for workers' rights, support workers in their efforts to improve working conditions, and encourage workers to take increasing leadership roles at the Immigrant Worker Center. This role requires excellent communication, negotiation, and organizing skills, along with a strong commitment to social justice and labor rights. The IWC Organizer will report to the IWC Director or delegate.

    DUTIES:

    Outreach & Recruitment:

Engage with workers through phone calls, meetings and visits to workplaces to learn about their working conditions and encourage them to join the IWC membership. This includes promoting events and mobilizing worker volunteers to support organizing campaigns, participate in Worker Center Committees, and serve in other volunteer roles in the Worker Center.

    Issue Identification and Advocacy:

Encourage, support and assist workers (or groups of workers) with identifying workplace issues, advocating for workers' rights, and organizing workplace improvements. Specifically, helping workers overcome the fear of retaliation, identifying legal protections and facilitating access to them, organizing strategies to improve workplace conditions, building connections among workers within and across industries, and utilizing other resources available through MassCOSH. The IWC Organizer will also be responsible for responding to workers who call the IWC hotline and/or managing volunteer responder shifts.

    Education & Trainings:

Provide introductory workers’ rights training, especially on occupational safety and health, to workers, worker centers, community organizations or other MassCOSH partners. The IWC Organizer will also help prepare and maintain training materials.

    Administrative:

Maintain accurate records of membership, activities, worker issues, and campaign progress using software tools such as Unite Us or other data management systems. The IWC Organizer will meet regularly with the MassCOSH Executive Director and the IWC Director to report on activities and discuss any areas for program improvement. Additionally, the IWC Organizer will support the Communications & Development Coordinator by providing worker testimonies, IWC calendar of activities, and live broadcast of trainings and events, and collaborating to increase membership engagement through MassCOSH Immigrant Worker Center’s social media.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education & Experience:

    • Proven track record of working with low-wage workers, immigrant communities, or other marginalized populations.
