Part-Time Managing Director of Major Gifts

Action Kivu, a 501c3 nonprofit, is hiring a part-time Managing Director (remote) to find new sources of financial support for the Congo Peace School [CPS].

Rate: $70K annually for part-time work, plus benefits and insurance = $84,600 annually

The ideal candidate:

1- Has major gifts experience, either as an associate or in a director level position

2- Has experience fundraising for Africa

3- Knows the landscape of Africa-supporting individuals, churches, temples, etc., and is willing to step into those spaces to uplift our work

4- Will have experience with grant research tools to identify small, family foundations who show a history of giving in this issue area

5- Will leverage their own networks and major gifts experience to amplify our message

In partnership with the Dillon Henry Foundation, the Congo Peace School is a unique and beautiful campus providing the most in-need with a quality education rooted in Martin Luther King Jr.’s principles of peace and nonviolence. The school is led by Congolese community builder Amani Matabaro.

In the U.S., we will soon launch a stand-alone website for the Congo Peace School, and are excited to be able to hire someone to help us utilize the site and all our powerful stories to grow our funding base. Your efforts will be supported by Action Kivu’s board and supporters and our CPS partner the Dillon Henry Foundation. Read more about the Congo Peace School in this one-sheet. The Managing Director will have access to a pre-existing air table database of potential funding to expand upon.

Action Kivu currently operates with one part-time staff person in the U.S. (Rebecca Snavely, Executive Director). The Managing Director will provide critical fundraising support for the future of the Congo Peace School by bringing in existing relationships and building new connections to find new funding sources to sustain the current operating budget as well as to replace the $100K annual grant the CPS has received for the past six years.

The Congo Peace School saves lives. Without the funding from individual donors and small family foundations, over 600 children in eastern Congo who are surviving the ongoing war and its aftermath of extreme poverty would not eat regularly. With the funding, they receive daily healthy meals, trauma-informed education and mind and body care, sports education and safe places to play, access to a large library of books, and the Internet and computer skills. The campus is a safe space for children to be kids, and the trained staff provide trauma-healing therapies for the students to find peace in the midst of war.
