    Descripción

Young people are facing shrinking economic opportunity, an affordability crisis, and a loss of community. Emerging technologies like AI are further threatening to accelerate each of these problems. Neither political party is prioritizing these pressing issues affecting our generation, and as a result, our generation is losing faith in the American Dream. We have been promised an American Dream, but for many, it’s not becoming a reality.

The Young People’s Alliance is a moment led by and for young people to reclaim the American Dream. We are developing innovative, bipartisan policy solutions that actually work for our generation, building a nationwide grassroots network of young people, and achieving real policy change for our generation in DC and state legislatures. We are seeking a passionate, driven person to become our Advocacy Director.

    This person will:

    • Cultivate and sustain relationships with policymakers and partners through proactive check-ins and promptly responding to inbound communication.
    • Advocate to state and federal policymakers for priority legislation and build consensus between stakeholders.
    • Shape YPA's campaigns and stances on legislation based on member input and political context.
    • Stay up to date with the news, synthesize information from high-level sources, and tactfully share updates with reporters, partners, and staff.
    • Deeply understand YPA’s mission and effectively communicate it to stakeholders, identifying points of alignment.
    • Speak on behalf of YPA to elevate youth voices in media, conferences, and public events
    • Create advocacy materials (such as briefs and one pagers) that thoughtfully navigate political dynamics.

    Qualities:

    • Proactive and reliable communicator who deeply cares about people.
    • Has a self-starting mentality and is comfortable taking ownership of major decisions.
    • Strong experience with policy, especially tech policy (AI and online safety), workforce development, housing, or education preferred (1-3 years). Lived experience with related issues is a plus.
    • Excited to work across party lines with a variety of actors who have different ideologies. Familiarity with post-neoliberalism and realignment politics is a plus.
    • Able to synthesize complex policy information and translate it to resonate with a variety of audiences.
    • Non-stop drive to improve the lives of young people.

Strong preference for a candidate based in or willing to move to Washington, DC.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 a year with opportunity for advancement based on organizational growth.

    Up to 50% travel.
