    About the Organization

    The CA Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative (CHNSC) is a statewide organization whose mission is to mobilize the nail salon workforce to transform the health, safety, and working conditions of the nail salon industry to build a healthy, sustainable, and equitable community. CHNSC educates and builds power in the nail salon community through leadership development, education and outreach, policy advocacy, civic engagement, narrative change and communications, and research. This position is shared with our sister entity CA Collab Action, a separate 501(c)4. For more information, see www.cahealthynailsalons.org.

    Position Overview

    The Civic Engagement Coordinator reports directly to the Senior Civic Engagement Coordinator. This person coordinates and supports CHNSC’s civic engagement work, including implementation of fieldwork with members and youth, as well as other civic engagement programs and activities. Programs and activities include non-partisan get-out-the-vote efforts, advocacy, and community education. This position supports canvassers and volunteers as needed.

    This is a hybrid, work from home position with a requirement to attend in person meetings, organizing activities, and retreats as required. The environment for this position includes working in a shared office and working outside, exposed to weather conditions and noise.

    Responsibilities

    The following responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.     Civic Engagement & Field Campaign Coordination – 60%

    • Work closely with the Civic Engagement team to coordinate and implement year-round civic engagement field campaigns
    • Support Civic Engagement team efforts, including logistics and scheduling for canvassing, phone banking, and text banking
    • Participate in regular IVE field planning meetings
    • Collaborate with other CHNSC teams to align civic engagement work with statewide and regional base-building efforts, policy advocacy, and electoral organizing initiatives
    • Engage nail salon workers and community members using culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and language-accessible outreach strategies
    • Represent CHNSC at community events, coalition meetings, and partner meetings, as needed
    • Participate in staff meetings, retreats, trainings, and supervision meetings

    Volunteer & Intern Coordination – 40%

    • Support the recruitment, training, coordination, and supervision of volunteers and interns for campaigns and projects throughout the year
    • Assist with volunteer and intern scheduling, communication, onboarding, and ongoing engagement to support campaign goals
    • Provide day-to-day support for volunteer and intern participation in canvassing, phone banking, text banking, and community outreach activities
    • Represent CHNSC at community events, coalitions, and partner meetings as needed

    Preferred Qualifications

    Required

    • Bilingual and/or bicultural Vietnamese background
    • Demonstrated commitment to CHNSC’s mission and commitment to social justice values including gender justice, immigrant and refugee rights, environmental and reproductive justice, workers’ rights, and racial justice
    • Demonstrated oral and written communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to convey information in a clear, concise way and present it to others
    • Proven skills at working in a collective environment, including excellent interpersonal skills to interact sensitively with colleagues and community members from diverse social, cultural, and educational backgrounds

    Preferred

    • At least 6-12 months of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience working on elections, voter registration, and GOTV
    • Creative thinking and proven systematic organizational skills to work independently without supervision, determine workload priorities to complete work in a timely manner, and identify and resolve problems
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines, take proactive initiative, and work both independently and in a team environment
    • Bilingual and/or bicultural Vietnamese background

    Compensation

    This position is a full-time, non-exempt position. The estimated hourly rate is $33.80-$36.06 per hour depending on experience. We offer a competitive health benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and a generous paid time off schedule.

    Work Environment/Physical Demands

    This position will work out of our offices in Garden Grove or Oakland; Hybrid work schedule that varies in-person/work from home depending on programming calendar; able to work on a computer including sitting at a desk for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation; manual dexterity to operate a keyboard; able to see or read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; able to speak clearly and in audible tones on the phone and in-person and be understood by others; able to hear and understand speech, including on the phone; able to understand and follow oral and written instructions; able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
