Communications Associate

POSITION SUMMARY

Lady Freethinker seeks a Communications Associate to maintain online communications that inspire people to become changemakers for animals. This person will play a critical role in growing the organization’s influence and community through social media, email support, campaign advocacy support, and other digital marketing tools. We’re looking for someone who loves scrolling on social media, enjoys communicating with fellow animal advocates, and knows how to create content that others want to share. Ideal candidates will have excellent writing skills, know how to communicate well with the public, pay close attention to detail, organize their time and tasks well, and demonstrate a commitment to animal protection.

The Communications Associate is responsible for creating social media content, analyzing social media trends to set best practices, keeping up-to-date on the latest technology in communication, answering inquiries from online donors and supporters, and assisting with campaign actions.

This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday. The LFT team is fully remote; however, applicant must normal Pacific Time work hours. California applicants are preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Social Media: Grows the organization’s reach and engagement on its primary channels (Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram) by managing the social media calendar through a tool like Social Pilot; collaborates with colleagues to create timely text, image, and video content; evolves the organization’s strategy and tone of voice to reach new audiences on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
• Community Engagement Support: Responds to email and phone communications from members of the LFT community. Must be able to handle high volumes of email inquiries efficiently and professionally using customer service software.
• Social Listening: Identifies opportunities for the organization to participate in relevant online conversations by tracking trending topics and hashtags; responds to comments, questions, mentions, and direct messages in a timely manner.
• Digital Advocacy: Drafts, vets, and builds digital actions like forms in coordination with colleagues and partner organizations, while maintaining best practices in data privacy.
• Analytics: Generates basic performance metrics for monthly reports and campaign debriefs; provides recommendations to help evolve digital strategy and content ideas. Monitors social media and Google analytics closely to suggest ideas for audience expansion.
• Campaigns Support: Provides support for campaign advocacy, including communications with fellow animal activists, assisting with the logistics of on-the-ground campaign actions, and creating assets for campaigns via social media or email.
• Content Creation & Strategy: Identifies & proposes opportunities for blog posts or other content to further reach LFT’s audience. Liaises with staff in campaigns & investigations to plan & develop upcoming campaign releases.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated experience strategically engaging audiences on different social media platforms through organic posts.
• Demonstrated experience dealing with inquiries from the public in a professional, polite and knowledgeable manner.
• Demonstrated experience developing high quality creative content (text, image, and video) that advances strategic goals.
• Proficiency with graphic design and video creation for social media.
• Solid computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and communications tools.
• Flexible schedule and ability to work non-traditional hours as needed.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing LFT’s values, mission, and goals, with an understanding of animal welfare advocacy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Familiarity with customer service platforms.
• Familiarity with WordPress.
• Familiarity with Slack.
• Familiarity with Social Pilot.
• Familiarity with Front.
• Graphic design experience or interest in learning graphic design.
• Interest in organizing and engaging a sustained supporter base.
