    Since its founding in 1977, Marin Horizon has been providing a challenging and robust academic program combined with character-enhancing life skills. Marin Horizon is a place of creative, active learning built around our commitment to developing each student’s confident voice. Marin Horizon serves about 300 students from toddler through grade eight and is located in Mill Valley, CA.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Marin Horizon School is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting & HR Associate to support the school’s business office operations. This entry-level position is ideal for a professional with 1–3 years of experience who is interested in pursuing a career in accounting, finance, and human resources in a mission-focused nonprofit environment.

    The Accounting & HR Associate plays an important role in the daily operations of the business office, with responsibilities spanning accounts receivable, billing, reconciliations, HR. The position requires strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Accounting & Finance

    • Manage tuition billing activities in Clarity software
    • Act as liaison to parents/guardians regarding accounts receivable, payment plans, and billing inquiries.
    • Manage billing processes for auxiliary programs, including summer camp, aftercare, extended day, and transportation.
    • Support monthly account reconciliations and journal entries.
    • Maintain enrollment contracts and update records with changes as needed.
    • Prepare and process weekly bank deposits.

    Human Resources

    • Support the upkeep and organization of HR files, including employee documents, for licensing and compliance purposes.
    • Provide administrative support for onboarding, offboarding, and employee record maintenance.
    • Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures.

    Other Responsibilities

    • Uphold Marin Horizon’s mission and values.
    • Communicate professionally with peers, supervisors, parents, and staff.
    • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Business Office.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
    • 1–3 years of experience in accounting, finance, or HR, preferably in a nonprofit or educational setting.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate discretion.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) and Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, etc.)
    • A collaborative, problem-solving mindset and a genuine interest in mission-driven work.

    Compensation and Benefits

    This is an hourly, non-exempt position. The hourly compensation rate will be $30/hr - $35/hr, commensurate with experience.
