Position Summary
PFLAG NYC, the original family-based organization that works to make life better for LGBTQ+ youth, is hiring its first-ever Development Manager. The Development Manager will help lead PFLAG NYC’s fundraising efforts across individual giving, corporations, foundations, and events. General responsibilities also include database management, donor communications, and administrative tasks. Your organizational skills, collaboration and communication expertise, flexible approach and ability to multi-task are key in this position.
This is a brand new position and exciting opportunity within the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
In partnership with the Executive Director, staff, and Board of Directors, develop and execute an annual fundraising plan, ensuring development practices are inclusive, transparent, and community-centered, by focusing primarily on the following to grow revenue:
- Individual Giving
- Create and implement donor cultivation strategies including supporting pre-existing donor campaigns and creating new campaigns and appeals;
- Oversee stewardship of a high-quality donor experience through developing individual relationships, correspondence, acknowledgments, impact updates, and other meaningful opportunities to engage with the organization;
- Manage small ($1-$99), mid-level ($100-249), high-level ($250-999), and major ($1,000+) donor groups with the goal of retaining and upgrading donors;
- Assist with donor segmentation;
- Support strategies to increase the number of recurring donors;
- Expand donor prospect research and engage in direct donor solicitation;
- Assist with fundraising events, including our Annual Gala, as needed as it pertains to individual donorship; and
- Collaborate with staff to align fundraising with budgets, messaging, and programs including:
- Work with Support Services Manager and Safe Schools Program Manager to understand our programming, and to analyze and grow our volunteer to donor pipeline;
- CRM & Data Management (Salesforce)
- Manage donor databases in Salesforce and Google Suite (gift entry, reporting, etc);
- Generate reports on donor contributions and donor trends;
- Support in analyzing giving and donor data to identify trends and opportunities, and recommend strategies for increased donor retention, with attention on diversifying donor demographics & giving levels; and
- Build donor profiles to prepare Executive Director and Board of Directors for donor stewardship
- Corporate Philanthropy and Grant Support
- Proactively research and directly solicit, via cold outreach and relationship based outreach, corporate prospects for new funding opportunities;
- Develop and deliver well-written, story-focused, compelling partnership proposals for corporations in collaboration with relevant staff and Board members;
- Conduct grant prospecting and collaborate with the Executive Director on writing and submission of grant proposals and reports; and
- Work with program staff and Executive Director to ensure plans are in place to measure & track impact for both corporate partners and foundations.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional history in development and fundraising;
- Thorough understanding of nonprofit fundraising;
- Proficiency working in Salesforce, proficiency in Google Suite;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate persuasively;
- A demonstrated capacity to interact effectively with donors and engage people with a wide range of personalities, diverse backgrounds, age ranges, and identities;
- Strong time management, administrative, and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities;
- Resilience and ability to persevere through rejection;
- Passionate commitment to the LGBTQ+ community;
- Working knowledge of and professional experience with LGBTQ+ and social justice issues;
- Ability to work together with a small team to assist in building out this new role in a collaborative environment.

- Commitment to the mission, vision, and work of PFLAG NYC;
- Ability to work with a broad range of donors and stakeholders representing the full diversity of the LGBTQ+ and allied communities;
- Flexible schedule, as this position requires occasional evening hours and weekends;
- Fluency in English is required; and
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high level of discretion.
