Program Coordinator (x2)

**NOTE: We will be hiring TWO part-time Program Coordinators. The roles are similar but will be based in different locations. One will primarily work at the Northeast Seattle Tool Library (NESTL), and the other will manage our upcoming space in the Lake City area. The NESTL position is permanent, and the Lake City one is guaranteed for one year but will likely extend.**

Organization: Seattle REconomy

Location: Seattle, WA (Northeast Seattle Tool Library OR Lake City neighborhood), must live within 20 minutes of NESTL or our Lake City site

Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)

Position Type: Part-Time (20 Hours/Week)

Compensation: $22/hour + $150/month health reimbursement

Position Description

The Program Coordinator is a paid staff position responsible for co-managing the day-to-day operations and volunteer experience at Seattle REconomy’s physical locations in the Lake City/Maple Leaf area. The ideal candidate enjoys engaging with the public. This position works closely with the managers, committees, members, and volunteers to ensure that the primary functions of the programs are carried out with consistency, reliability, and in harmony with the goals of Seattle REconomy, the parent nonprofit.

We are a friendly bunch at Seattle REconomy who know that sharing is caring and tools are for everyone! The Tool Libraries help reduce our community’s footprint and increase our climate resilience through education and practical solutions. The Northeast Seattle Tool Library (NESTL) opened its doors in 2013 and the Shoreline Tool Library (STL) kicked off in 2024. Our two Tool Libraries provide free community access to a wide variety of tools and sustainable resources. This Spring, we will be opening a third space in Lake City in coordination with the City of Seattle and other circular economy partners.

Key Responsibilities (for both roles)

Facilities & Systems

• Provide staffing during open hours at the Tool Libraries or Lake City space (we are open on select weeknights and weekend days)
• Assist with recordkeeping and bookkeeping
• Maintain and update databases
• Answer or appropriately route phone calls, mail, and e-mail from the public
• Ensure the facility remains organized and functional for all collaborative opportunities.

Community Engagement

• Maintain a professional and welcoming atmosphere that aligns with Seattle REconomy’s mission of equitable access.
• Train and manage volunteers.
• Assist in community outreach activities as needed.

Responsibilities specific to the Lake City Coordinator

Site Access, Operations & Security

• Manage daily facility opening and closing procedures to ensure the Commons is accessible for all scheduled tenant activities.
• Act as the primary on-ground point of contact for sub-leasing partners and community members using the space.
• Maintain basic site logs to track visitor flow and facility usage.
• Ensure 24/7 site visibility by coordinating with remote monitoring systems, staff, volunteers and sub-leasing partners.
• Conduct regular safety walkthroughs and monitor the physical condition of the shared reuse and repair space.
• Promptly report any maintenance needs or security incidents to the Program Manager.

Responsibilities specific to the NESTL Coordinator

Site Access, Operations & Tool Lending

• Check in and out tools
• Complete new membership enrollments in the database
• Maintain and expand the inventory of tools as they are circulated and acquired
• Attend Steering Committee meetings as requested by the Steering Committee, currently on the 2nd Wednesday and 3rd Tuesdays of each month from 7 – 9 PM.

Qualifications

The Program Coordinator should possess the following skills and abilities:

• Reliable
• Detail oriented
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Desire to serve the community and the environment
• Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written
• Experience effectively managing staff or volunteers
• Proficient with basic computer programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., Google products)
• Strong self-motivation and an ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
• (Specific to the NESTL role) Working knowledge of and ability to safely operate common hand and power tools, or willingness to learn quickly
• (Specific to the NESTL role) Ability to assess tool condition and perform basic tool maintenance tasks

Not necessary, but we’d love to know about any experience you have with the following:

• Working with nonprofits
• Maintaining and improving the organization of a large inventory
• Strong computer and IT skills
• Wood shops and ability to teach others basic woodworking skills
• Bike maintenance and ability to teach others about bike maintenance
• Workplace safety
• Social media management and/or visual design work
• Maintaining and fixing common tools
• Broad knowledge of and ability to advise on a variety of DIY projects
