About ALBA’s Open Horizon Fellowship
ALBA’s Open Horizon Fellowship was created to strengthen and expand ALBA’s educational efforts and awareness raising. Through enhanced fundraising, ALBA will be positioned to increase its programming, which maintains the historic legacy of the heroes who fought fascism in the Spanish Civil War, and to support efforts to stem the rise of fascism in today’s world.
Key Responsibilities of the DCO:
Responsibilities and configurations can evolve over time with input and insights from the Executive Director and Deputy Director in collaboration with the DCO.
Requirements
The incumbent will earn $70,000 during this 12-month fellowship, depending on time commitment and availability. Benefits include paid leave, paid holidays off, and health insurance via stipend paid directly to the fellow.
The position offers professional development through two primary avenues: (1) close collaboration with senior leadership, including direct work with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to build strong, long-term relationships; and (2) direct mentorship that supports the advancement of professional skills and personal growth.
Open Horizon fellows have access to benefits beyond those offered by the hosting organization. The foundation offers optional support opportunities that fellows and interns may choose to engage in and take advantage of for personal and professional growth. Programming includes and is not limited to optional webinars presented by Open Horizon and/or its other partner organizations, options for use of supplemental funding for professional subscriptions (if not offered by the hosting organization), encouraging recognition of punctuated milestones along the fellowship, and an opportunity to connect with Open Horizon leadership to share about the fellowship and their career goals. In past years, Open Horizon has been pleased to coordinate information interviews for interns and fellows and make introductions where applicable for those who are job seeking toward the end of their tenure with the hosting organization.
ALBA:
The Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives (ALBA) is an educational non-profit dedicated to promoting social activism and the defense of human rights. ALBA’s work is inspired by the American volunteers of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade who fought fascism in the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Inspired by the anti-fascist activism of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, ALBA works toward a more widespread, profound, and nuanced awareness of the history of America’s progressive traditions among high school students, college students, scholars, and the public at large. We hope and intend that this awareness will allow progressive communities in the United States and elsewhere to develop effective strategies to meet the present and future challenges faced by the world, and to work more consciously and effectively toward a better and more just society.
ALBA values a diverse staff and diverse perspectives to carry out its mission and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities without regard to race, creed, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, marital status, age, veteran status, medical condition or disability, genetic information, gender identity, or any other protected status under federal, state, or local law.
