Development Director — Help Build Power for Housing and Economic Justice | Harlem, NY (Hybrid)

This is an ideal role for a fundraiser who enjoys both strategy and execution and wants to help build a development program inside a powerful grassroots organizing organization.

Community Voices Heard (CVH) is a Black- and brown-led, member-driven organization building grassroots power among people with low incomes across New York.

    Our members organize to win:

    • truly affordable housing
    • financial dignity for working families
    • a fully participatory democracy

We center the leadership of women and people most impacted by injustice because lasting change comes from communities organizing together. We are seeking a Development Director to help strengthen and grow the fundraising program that sustains this work.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

The Development Director works closely with the Executive Director and senior leadership team to support the growth and sustainability of Community Voices Heard and its affiliated organization, CVH Power.

This role is ideal for a strong writer, relationship builder, and systems-oriented fundraiser who enjoys managing multiple aspects of development work — from grants and donor stewardship to fundraising events and internal coordination.

While the role carries the title Development Director, it is a highly collaborative (internally manager/senior manager-level) position focused on implementing and strengthening CVH’s fundraising systems and relationships.

This position supports fundraising for both:

    • Community Voices Heard (501(c)(3))
    • CVH Power (501(c)(4))

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    Institutional & Grant Fundraising

    • Write compelling grant proposals, reports, and renewals
    • Maintain the organization’s grants calendar and track deadlines
    • Research and identify new institutional funding opportunities
    • Track funder communications and maintain records in EveryAction

    Individual Giving & Donor Stewardship

    • Support annual fundraising campaigns including Giving Tuesday and year-end appeals
    • Coordinate donor acknowledgments and stewardship communications
    • Assist with donor cultivation and follow-up meetings

    Fundraising Events

    • Support planning and execution of 3–4 fundraising or donor cultivation events annually
    • Coordinate logistics, outreach, and post-event follow-up
    • Work with the communications team to develop invitations and materials

    Development Operations

    • Maintain donor and grant data in EveryAction CRM
    • Support annual fundraising projections and tracking
    • Coordinate internally with program, communications, and finance teams

    Organizational Collaboration

    • Ensure fundraising materials reflect current organizing campaigns and impact
    • Participate in staff meetings, retreats, and strategic planning conversations

    WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Strong candidates will bring a combination of fundraising experience, strong writing skills, and commitment to social justice work.

    Qualifications include:

    • At least 5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience
    • Experience with grant writing and institutional fundraising
    • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling ability
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple timelines
    • Experience using CRM systems such as EveryAction or Salesforce
    • Ability to build relationships with colleagues, funders, and community partners

Additional experience that is helpful but not required:

    • Fundraising for advocacy or organizing organizations
    • Experience supporting 501(c)(4) fundraising efforts

We strongly value candidates who are committed to racial, economic, and housing justice.

    Compensación

CVH offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your health, well-being, and long-term growth, including:

These benefits are designed to provide flexibility, tax advantages, and meaningful support for staff and their families.

    • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage
    • Participation in pre-tax benefit programs through Ameriflex, including:

      • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) – employee-funded option
      • Dependent Care Account (DCA) – employee-funded option

    • Individualized professional development support of up to $1,500 annually
