    About BYP100

    Founded in 2013, BYP100 (Black Youth Project 100) is a member-based organization of Black youth activists creating justice and freedom for all Black people. We are building a network focused on transformative leadership development, direct action organizing, advocacy, and education.

    Our work is generally centered on ending systems of anti-Blackness and emphasizing the urgency of protecting folks living on the margins of society. As of 2022, BYP100 is a unionized workplace with BYP100 Workers United.

    This position is a bargaining unit position and is represented by the Chicago and Midwest Regional Board, Workers United.

    About the Human Resources Manager

    The Human Resources Manager is an experienced HR professional who is essential to

    our growth and ability to recruit and retain talented staff. The Human Resources Manager

    is responsible for the design and implementation of our recruitment plan and a tailored

    staff engagement strategy.

    Reports to: National Co-Director (temporarily)

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develops and manages the strategy and process regarding recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of new staff members
    • Takes leadership in attracting high-performing staff members that will help BYP 100 achieve its goals.
    • Assists with employee off-boarding, employee status changes and other general updates, and conducts exit interviews
    • Supports a variety of employee relations matters including performance issues, interpersonal conflicts, grievances, and mediations
    • Acts as a trusted advisor to employees with the interpretation and implementation of HR policies and procedures. Answers questions and provides information and advice about the workplace
    • Researches, analyzes data, generates reports, and provides general HR support to the co-directors and director’s team
    • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, and employment law
    • Assists with identifying and reporting trends/issues; follows up with staff as needed and filters feedback to national co-directors
    • Participates in the review and revision of personnel policies and procedures; assists with preparing and maintaining the employee handbook to improve the compliance posture of the organization
    • Familiarizes employees with policies and procedures via direct communication, training and information sessions, etc.; administers organizational policies and works to reduce liabilities
    • Contributes to department goals, objectives, and implementation of new systems in consultation with the national co-director
    • Assists with coordination of staff training sessions and communications to staff around a variety of HR programs and topics
    • Compiles metrics and produces various reports as directed. Assists with tracking of and adherence to compliance deadlines for reporting, notifications, training, etc.
    • Promotes organization culture, values, and works to support a positive work environment and morale among staff
    • Research, problem-solve, and make recommendations on complex HR administrative questions
    • Ensure all job descriptions are up to date and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations
    • Manages salaries, including periodically updating salary ranges, conducting salary comparisons, and working with the national co-directors to implement salary changes.
    • Manages benefits administration
    • Other duties as assigned

    • Organizes and leads high-impact activities, lunch and learns, and initiatives for the team to positively engage in the community
    • Establishes specific goals related to employee engagement and clear ways to measure and track the effectiveness of each activity, initiative, event, etc.
    • Identifies and implements new opportunities to enhance a sense of belonging and social connection in an organization with remote employees

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Five or more years proven experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience as an HR Generalist; PHR or SHRM-CP certification desired.
    • Experience recruiting and retaining staff in the nonprofit sector and/or social justice arena
    • Strong track record finding and retaining high performing talent at a fast-growing organization.
    • Proficient with Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Docs and Drive).
    • A high degree of discretion, professional ethics, and judgment in confidential matters and information.
    • Committed to delivering a positive employee experience and ensuring that all employees feel a strong sense of inclusion and belonging
    • Ability to drive engagement with remote employees and during in person convenings
    • Ability to communicate the organization's culture and support an engaging work environment.
    • Ability to coach and continuously develop employees within the organization
    • Knowledge of a broad range of human resource strategies and practices, including compensation, performance management, safety, hiring and employee relations; able to apply these strategies and practices in compliance with employment regulations
    • Strong attention to detail, excellent communicator, excellent customer service skills.
    • Ability to analyze problems, gather pertinent data and recommend solutions.
    • Ability to maintain composure and sound judgment when dealing with deadlines, staff needs, and a fast-paced environment. Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities.
    • Strong organizational skills are required to meet recurring deadlines and maintain tracking systems related to HR, employee engagement, and retention data.
    • Commitment to work well within and across teams with a results-driven approach

    • BYP100 pays 100% of employer-sponsored medical and dental insurance for employees and their dependents, as well as premiums for short-term disability and a $50,000 life insurance policy for the employee
