    What We Seek

    The University of New Mexico Foundation is seeking a strategic, experienced, and relationship-driven Executive Director of Development to lead philanthropic efforts supporting UNM Hospitals and UNM Children’s Hospital. This senior leadership role is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies that advance critical healthcare priorities and expand philanthropic support for patient care, programs, and innovation that benefit communities across New Mexico.

    The Executive Director of Development will provide strategic oversight of fundraising programs including major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, and campaign initiatives. This role partners closely with Foundation leadership, hospital executives, physicians, and community stakeholders to cultivate transformational philanthropic investments. The Executive Director will also lead and mentor a team of development professionals, ensuring alignment of fundraising strategies, strong portfolio management, and measurable progress toward ambitious philanthropic goals.

    What We Require

    The ideal candidate will bring a demonstrated record of success in major and principal gift fundraising, along with significant experience developing and implementing strategic fundraising initiatives within complex organizations. This individual must possess strong leadership and managerial capabilities, including experience supervising and mentoring development professionals and aligning team performance with institutional priorities.

    Candidates should demonstrate exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage donors, institutional leadership, volunteers, and community partners with professionalism and credibility. Strong organizational and strategic planning skills are essential, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, evaluate progress toward fundraising goals, and guide staff in executing effective donor engagement strategies.

    Experience utilizing donor management systems (CRM) to support portfolio management, prospect strategy, and reporting is required. The position also requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel for donor meetings, events, and institutional engagements.

    The minimum education and experience required:

    • Baccalaureate degree; master’s degree or higher preferred.
    • Seven years of successful fundraising and development experience, preferably in higher education, experience in healthcare philanthropy is highly preferred.
    • Five years of experience in management, including direct supervisory experience.

    Compensation Salary Range:

    The expected salary for this position is $121,000 - $151,000. This range is an estimate, and the final salary will be determined based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, consideration of any approved geographic salary differential, and alignment with internal equity guidelines to ensure consistency across similar roles.
