    About Us

    We are seeking a strong communicator and relationship builder who will develop a deep passion for increasing awareness of juvenile myositis, a rare childhood disease, while engaging and supporting families affected by JM through community based fundraising and chapter leadership.

    Cure JM’s mission is to find a cure and better treatments for juvenile myositis and to improve the lives of families impacted by the disease.

    The Walk and Chapter Manager plays a central role in growing Cure JM’s grassroots community by supporting Walk Strong events and local chapters across the country. This position works closely with volunteer leaders, families, donors, and staff to build strong, sustainable chapters and successful fundraising events that advance Cure JM’s mission.

    The Walk and Chapter Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to strengthen chapter leadership, increase participation and fundraising outcomes, and ensure consistency across Walk Strong events. This role establishes annual goals, timelines, and support plans for chapters, provides guidance and training to volunteer leaders, and collaborates with internal teams to deliver high quality events and meaningful community engagement.

    In this role you will:

    • Be the lead program manager for the chapters and walks in your region
    • Plan, manage and execute all aspects of the organization's walk events, which are key components of our fundraising and community engagement strategies.
    • Engage and inspire volunteers and donors
    • Travel to chapter events and walks in each of the chapters supported. This travel amounts to 2-3 days of travel and approximately 6-10 trips per year, as mutually agreed upon by all parties.

    Specific responsibilities include:

    • Event Planning & Management:
      • Oversee the planning and execution of multiple walk events annually, including logistics, budgeting, and timeline management.
      • Coordinate with vendors, venues, and service providers to ensure all event details are handled efficiently.
      • Develop and manage event timelines, ensuring all milestones are met.
    • Fundraising & Sponsorship:
      • Develop and implement strategies to meet or exceed fundraising goals for each event.
      • Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with corporate sponsors, donors, and community partners.
      • Track and report on fundraising progress, providing regular updates to the rest of the walk staff and broader staff and volunteers as requested.
    • Marketing & Promotion:
      • Create and distribute event materials, including brochures, flyers, and sponsorship packages.
      • Engage the local children’s hospital(s) to market the event to their constituents.
      • Engage with the local families to promote the event through their communication networks.
    • Volunteer Coordination:
      • Recruit and engage a committee of leaders, creating a can-do culture among grassroots leaders.
      • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for each walk event, ensuring they are prepared and supported throughout the event.
      • Develop volunteer roles and schedules and oversee volunteer activities on event day.
      • Implement volunteer appreciation strategies to retain and recognize volunteers.
    • Bring Constituents into the Family:
      • Works with staff and volunteer leaders in each community to cultivate families, especially new families, and welcome them into the Cure JM fold by making connections to other families and engaging in their local chapter.
      • Is responsible for encouraging chapter families to participate in chapter events and Walk Strong events
    • Participant Engagement:
      • Build and maintain relationships with walk participants, team captains, and top fundraisers.
      • Provide participants with the tools, resources, and support they need to maximize their fundraising efforts.
      • Organize pre-event activities such as kick-off meetings, fundraising workshops, and team-building events.
    • Post-Event Activities:
      • Conduct post-event evaluations, gathering feedback from participants, volunteers, and sponsors.
      • Analyze event performance, including financial outcomes, participant satisfaction, and areas for improvement.
      • Prepare detailed post-event reports and recommendations for future events.
    • Budget Management:
      • Develop and manage event budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
      • Monitor and track event expenses, reconciling budgets post-event.
      • Work with the finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting.

    • Microsoft Office Proficient: Skilled in Microsoft Excel and Word.
    • Google Suite Savvy: Comfortable using Google Drive and related tools to create and manage files collaboratively.
    • Flexible Schedule: Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed to support events and deadlines.

    Reports to: Walk Manager

    Salary: $60,000 annually, paid monthly on the last day of each month

    Benefits: 10 paid Holidays, 3 weeks paid vacation time, 5 paid sick days - Begin accruing immediately

    Hours: 40 hours per week, flexible schedule

    Location: Texas area preferred, western states acceptable, open to discussion. This is a telecommuting position. There will be occasional travel upon mutual agreement.
