    ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

    NJ LEEP works to close the educational equity gap by partnering with first-generation and low-income students from the greater Newark area to build skills and offer experiences to achieve their college and career ambitions. NJ LEEP currently serves middle school students, high school students, college students, and their family members. Through a wide range of educational programs, we offer students the opportunity to develop their academic, professional, and social-emotional skills.     POSITION OVERVIEW

    The part-time School-Based Program Instructor will report to the Director of School-Based Programs and will be responsible for teaching an after-school college access course for up to 30 students and being a helpful and proactive resource for students in the college application process, as well as preparing them for expectations that await them in college.

    We are seeking two instructors each for 11th grade programming at Central High School and East Side High School. Instructor training will begin in December 2025 and student programming will begin in January 2026.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Programming

    • Lead instruction of after-school college preparation classes for high school juniors. Manage classroom and keep students consistently focused and on task during after-school programming hours.
    • Work to build relationships of trust, support, and high expectations with students and families
    • Provide one-on-one support and coaching to students as needed
    • Review and offer constructive feedback on written responses to all assignments

    Administrative Support

    • Track, input, and maintain student data (including, but not limited to student attendance and assignment completion) in NJ LEEP data management systems
    • Follow up with students regarding their NJ LEEP assignments
    • Collect and manage sensitive documents (e.g., school transcripts and family financial documents)

    Qualifications

    • BA/BS degree from a four-year college or university
    • Strong writing, proofreading and editing skills, with meticulous attention to detail
    • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships
    • Experience leading and facilitating groups of students; high school teaching experience preferred

    Time Commitment & Compensation

    • Instructors will be expected to lead after-school student programming twice per week (Monday through Thursday) for approximately two hours each day.
    • There will be an additional 2-4 (paid) hours of preparation and feedback work per week.
    • Instructors will participate in monthly professional development and/or team meetings.
    • All instructors will be paid at the hourly rate of $45.
