The United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 3000 is seeking an experienced Union Senior Strategic Researcher responsible for developing and executing strategic research campaigns in support of organizing and bargaining objectives.
Position requires a creative and collaborative thinker who can draw on diverse information sources, including our own members' knowledge, to develop research in support of strategic campaigns and that will advance the union's policy, bargaining and organizing goals. All relevant experience will be considered.
RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Develop and coordinate research and analysis in collaboration with all depts. including but not limited to Organizing, Political, Community, and Grievance
- Work with leadership to implement strategic organizing and bargaining goals
- Develop creative research products utilizing a racial and gender equity lens
- Identify, develop and build relationships with a diverse group of experienced and knowledgeable workers
- Work closely with the Capital Strategies Director and other relevant directors to conceive and carry out quantitative and qualitative research projects
- May be required to participate in public policy activity such as legislative and political work
- Prepare written communications for staff, members, allies, journalists and government officials
- Deliver formal and informal presentations to internal and external audiences
- Work effectively with a team while managing multiple priorities and take on time-sensitive projects including attending events or assisting on campaigns
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Commitment to economic, political and social justice, including racial and gender equity
- Ability to find and analyze relevant quantitative and qualitative information, including financial reports, traditional and social media, worker stories, legal documents, and government and commercial databases
- Ability to think critically and analytically and use sound judgment
- Experience costing complex collective bargaining agreements using spreadsheet and database software, or the ability to acquire the relevant skills
- Ability to work successfully with diverse groups of people
- Ability to work long and irregular hours, when necessary, and manage multiple priorities under pressure and deadlines
- Experience in both Public and Private sectors preferred
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel (i.e. pivot tables, VLookup, etc.); outstanding candidates will also have proficiency with statistical software (python, R, etc.)
- Ability to work long and irregular hours, when necessary, and manage multiple priorities under pressure and deadlines
