    UPROSE Climate Justice Organizer

    Founded in 1966, UPROSE is an intergenerational, BIWOC-led, internationally recognized community organization. UPROSE works at the intersection of racial justice and climate change through community-based planning and research, policy advocacy, popular education, organizing, artistic expression, and youth leadership development.

    The role of the Just Transition Coordinator involves promoting equitable access to sustainable energy resources, particularly within marginalized communities. This position requires a blend of policy advocacy, community engagement, and program management skills.

    This is a full-time position that provides a benefits package and professional development opportunities. UPROSE is looking for someone who can work in-person full-time Monday-Friday in our Sunset Park, Brooklyn office. Salary commensurate with experience. Candidates must be able to work in a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.     Key Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate development of the Just Transition Center (JTC) for local residents interested in clean energy economy careers;
    • Supervise UPROSE staff assigned to the JTC;
    • Effectively collaborate with partners to build accessible clean energy economy career pathways, including offshore wind, building retrofits, solar, climate related manufacturing and other industries;
    • Establish referral network of support, education and training for local residents interested in clean energy careers;
    • Coordinate development of Clean Energy Economy Resource Database for the JTC, with support of partners and UPROSE team members; and manage updates to database;
    • Advocate and incorporate Just Transition principles into clean energy workforce development and workforce trainings;
    • Engage in community-based planning efforts to identify & support local community priorities for green jobs;
    • Support community education workshops around local renewable energy project benefits and opportunities, Energy Democracy and Just Transition;
    • Represent the organization at meetings with partners and stakeholders and on coalition calls;
    • Contribute to grant-writing as needed;
    • Report directly to the Executive Director

    Qualifications:

    • 3 to 5 years of organizing experience;
    • Demonstrated commitment to Environmental Justice, Social Justice and Climate Justice issues;
    • Knowledge of issues affecting frontline communities, communities of color and low-income communities;
    • Proven experience in coordinating and facilitating meetings and working with grassroots intergenerational communities of color;
    • Experience promoting issues and policy objectives;
    • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team-setting;
    • Excellent written/oral communications skills;
    • Comfort with giving public presentations;
    • Knowledge of basic computer applications, such as Microsoft, Google, and Adobe applications;
    • Accountability and time management
    • Spanish/English bilingual proficiency preferred

    Salary is based on experience: $70,000 - 80,000
