The PA Solidarity Project (PSP) Overview

PSP is a brand new social change organization that has a big vision for Pennsylvania. We are driven by a desire to build a future where every person in the state has what they need to thrive and feels like they belong. To achieve this vision we’re committed to building power rooted in multiracial working-class communities. Through identifying and cultivating grassroots leaders, conducting issue and electoral campaigns, policy development, research analysis, narrative amplification, and coalitions, we will transform politics at the local and state level to be responsive and accountable to working-class needs.

The challenges we’ll face combined with the audacity of our vision calls us to build a team of courageous, creative, strategic people who are committed to building a more equitable Pennsylvania. Our desire is to build an organization that can be highly adaptive and scalable by blending the best of traditional community organizing with innovations that multiply our impact on people and systems. The work for PSP begins in Philadelphia but will expand to other regions of the state as we take serious the long-term need to build governing power at the state level.

    Current Opening

This position will play a key leadership role within the organization, working in close partnership with key member-leaders and the Executive Director to ensure PSP is living into its theory of change, building significant power, and making sizable impact. The role will focus on leading the organizing team, with the primary responsibility being to create and sustain conditions that support Organizers achieving mastery of the craft of organizing.

The ideal candidate is an experienced organizer and analytical thinker with a demonstrated track record of designing and building strategies to achieve ambitious goals. This is a unique opportunity to join a startup and shape the early strategies and direction of the organization. This means things will likely move fast and that everyone will wear multiple hats. You’ll have significant freedom to test ideas and the flexibility to adjust as we learn what works best. This role is perfect for someone who loves people, justice, and enjoys the spirit of a startup (if you get excited by phrases like “Let’s figure it out,” you’ll fit right in). We’re looking for teammates who balance confidence and curiosity, and are committed to learning and growing.

Core Responsibilities (but not limited to):

    Oversee the Development of Organizers

    • Take responsibility for developing each Organizer’s skills and leadership capacity — regularly assessing progress, identifying strengths and growth areas, and providing targeted coaching and support to help them reach the next level of effectiveness.
    • Provide strong, values-aligned management to organizing staff, including regular supervision, performance feedback, and formal reviews that support accountability, growth, and alignment with organizational goals.

    Campaigning

    • Lead and guide campaigns with thoughtfulness and rigor — from initial power analysis through planning, implementation, and reflection — ensuring each campaign advances both immediate impact and long-term objectives.
    • Design and manage clear campaign systems — including detailed timelines, monitoring tools, and scenario planning — to anticipate challenges, adapt in real time, and keep work on track and accountable.
    • Lead processes for evaluating campaigns and integrating learning across the organization — ensuring that insights from our work continually inform and improve our mental models, strategies, and leadership development.

    Leadership & Systems Alignment

    • Proactively initiate and sustain relationships with coalition partners and long-term strategic allies.
    • Monitoring the news and political and economic dynamics, ensuring the organization has an up-to-date power analysis of each environment PSP organizes in.
    • Uphold the pillars of our organizational culture: embrace, model, and spread our core culture ideas.
    • Foster a positive team culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence, by supporting staff needs, creating clarity, and helping resolve internal challenges.
    • Ensure all organizing is aligned with legal compliance, data collection, and HR best practices.
    • Partner with HR to monitor and proactively respond to trends in workplace culture, and ensure the employee handbook is clear and reflects best practices.
    • Assist in planning and executing organizing-focused meetings, all-staff convenings, and retreats across teams.
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and managers on team dynamics, conflict resolution, and organizational development.
    • Stay abreast of organizing success and innovations around the country, capturing ideas that PSP could integrate.

    Requirements:

    • Eligible to work in the US
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in organizing community members, workers, tenants, congregations, or other constituencies
    • Proficiency in basic computer programs (Google Suite, Zoom)
    • Be able to work some evenings and weekends
    • Must have a driver's license
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multicultural spaces
    • Strong verbal & written communication; ability to lead and inspire a team

    Preferred, but not required:

    • Fluency in languages other than English, especially French or Spanish
    • Experience in a supervisory role
    • Experience using data systems (CRM tools) and project management software (Asana)
    • Experience building coalitions across diverse stakeholders

    Job Competencies:

    • Strong analytical skills and writing skills
    • Strong time management skills
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Strong problem solving skills
    • Ability to adapt to the context and work under pressure
    • High level of accountability and initiative; needs to be a self-starter and eager to do team work in service to organizational objectives

    Compensación

PSP offers an excellent benefits package including premium medical, dental, and vision insurance, an employer-funded pension, paid family leave, an annual professional development allowance, paid vacation, sick, and personal days. The salary range for this position is $75,000-$100,000 depending on experience.

PSP places a high value on creating and fostering an inclusive workplace. We do not make hiring decisions based on race, religion, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, political affiliation, pregnancy, disability, or any other status protected by law.
