    Director of Technology – San Francisco, CA

    The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) is seeking a full-time Director of Technology based in our San Francisco office. This is an exempt position that reports to the Executive Director.

    The ILRC currently has a hybrid work model requiring at least two in-office days per week.

    The Opportunity:

    The Director of Technology is a forward-thinking visionary senior leader within the organization and advances the ILRC mission by acting as a subject matter expert and strategic leader in technology operations, including technology, data, and information security. Working closely with the Director of Finance and other leadership positions, the Director of Technology plays a key role in building strong strategic and operational systems related to technology that will build, sustain, and advance the organization in accordance with ILRC values. The Director of Technology leads day-to-day technology operations, including technology enablement, defining technology architecture and infrastructure, ensuring compliance, and managing vendor relationships. The Director of Technology acts both as a strategic leader and a hands-on executor in areas ranging from systems administration to employee IT to procurement. Additionally, the Director of Technology collaborates with leaders across the organization to enhance and better integrate technology consistently across the organization.

    Job Responsibilities:

    The specific job responsibilities of the Director of Technology include:

    • Responsible for the day-to-day management of IT infrastructure, strategy, structure, staffing, vendor management, and budgeting.
    • Create and maintain the ILRC’s IT budget including forecasting, planning, and researching for selection of technologies based on technical and financial merits.
    • Responsible for assessing the ILRC’s technology needs and making upgrade recommendations.
    • Build collaborative relationships across functional areas to evaluate, create, and implement a “best in class” technology vision and strategy that empowers ILRC to achieve its goals and mission.
    • Lead strategic direction and advisement for technical products and services by offering strong thought leadership on emerging technologies.
    • Direct the monitoring and performance of the organization’s computer network to identify potential problems before they occur.
    • Develop and maintain procedures, standards, and IT policies to protect the privacy and integrity of data, including compliance with regulations and security policies and training; develop contingency plans and manage security breaches.
    • Identify and execute business process improvements related to technical applications, systems, and staff implementations.
    • Select and actively manage vendors and platforms for internal and external use, determining and leading the identification and coordination of internal resource needs and "best in class" execution and presentation.
    • Identify, prioritize, and communicate technology impacts throughout various decision-making processes as they pertain to ILRC technology.
    • Lead and direct interdepartmental teams towards the integration of new services into the organizational network.
    • Negotiate and manage critical vendor relationships to maximize value.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Recruit, hire, train, and manage IT staff.
    • Directly supervise the Jr. Systems Administrator, Salesforce Administrator and Business Analyst, Website Administrator (in a shared supervisory model), consultants, and third-party vendors.
    • Coach and mentor direct reports regarding performance and problem resolution.
    • Ensure the development and retention of staff by growing and investing in each IT staff member’s knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Consistently communicate responsibilities and expectations and conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
    • Work with the Executive Director and HR to resolve personnel issues through policies and procedures.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field and minimum ten (10) years of progressive experience working in IT operations.
    • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities, strategies, and circumstances.
    • Must have a strong demonstrated background in cyber security.
    • Must have proven experience managing technology strategies to make an organization more effective and more efficient.
    • Must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience overseeing IT teams and projects.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Project Management experience and Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
    • Familiarity with laws, regulations, and best practices concerning IT, including PCI-DSS, and NIST-IT 800-53, etc.
    • Experience launching and leading strategic initiatives at a nonprofit organization.
    • Experience working in a legal nonprofit and/or the immigrant community.

    Compensation/Benefits:

    Pay is commensurate with experience. The salary range for the position will be 175,000 – 185,000. The ILRC offers excellent benefits, medical/dental/vision insurance, EAP sessions, a flexible spending account for medical and dependent care, vacation, and sick leave. The ILRC also sponsors a retirement plan option upon fulfillment of eligibility. Additionally, we offer an annual professional development stipend of $2,500, and, from 2024 – 2027, an annual wellness stipend of $2,500.
