    About SACRED

    Based in Chicago, SACRED (South Asian American Coalition to Renew Democracy) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonpartisan, independent organization working to overcome hate in the South Asian American community. SACRED unites progressive members of the South Asian American community to overcome anti-democratic South Asian actors that advance authoritarianism and the myth of racial and caste superiority in the U.S. We organize multiracial, multifaith, anti-caste coalitions to advance the vision of democracy, equality, nonviolence, and collective liberation that has united civil rights leaders in the U.S. and South Asia since the first half of the 20th century.

    SACRED is hiring an Administrative Associate to provide logistical and administrative support for the implementation of SACRED’s public education, organizing, and research programs. Successful candidates should have previous experience working in a similar role and more specifically, SACRED is looking for candidates who:

    • Has a strong work ethic and the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively;
    • Is highly organized and has excellent oral and written communication skills;
    • The ability to work independently and on multiple streams of work simultaneously, including at times in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
    • A commitment to developing a collaborative work environment, constructive workplace culture, and team-centered approach.

    • The ability to engage constructively in discussions about organizational goals, performance, metrics, and deadlines.

    Responsibilities may include (but may not be limited to):

    • Support the Executive Director, Board Members, and/or other team members in delivering on administering SACRED’s work.
    • Coordinating schedules, arranging meetings, distributing memos and reports and ensuring that everyone is kept current internal developments.
    • Help prepare and maintain: budgets, accounting systems, invoices and payments.
    • Coordinating planning and implementation related to internal policies including digital security.
    • Meticulously maintain and organize electronic and physical files, ensuring the confidentiality and security of files and filing systems.
    • Assist in updating website content.
    • Oversee procurement and management of office/supplies.
    • Communicate and coordinate with team members, volunteers, donors and partners.
    • Board support: Prepare monthly updates for board and provide support pertaining to meetings (including but not limited to: pre-meeting notices, reminders and materials; reserving meeting space and AV equipment; perform post-meeting follow-up tasks)
    • Track SACRED’s metrics and outcomes as well as maintain and update records for grants, programs and initiatives.
    • Contribute to a work culture that centers justice, inclusion, participation, and collaboration.
    • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed and undertaking other duties in support of SACRED’s work.

    Required qualifications and skills:

    • Minimum of two years of experience working in administrative position with similar responsibilities.
    • Experience carrying out basic accounting.
    • Strong demonstrated proofreading, copy editing and editorial skills.
    • Basic project management experience and use of project management platforms/software to track and manage projects.
    • Previous experience managing and backstopping in-person events and managing online events (e.g., Zoom).
    • Problem solving skills, efficient, organized, and detail oriented.
    • Ability to work independently and on multiple streams of work simultaneously, including at times in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
    • Commitment to developing a collaborative work environment, constructive workplace culture, and team-centered approach.
    • Mission and value alignment with SACRED’s work.
    • Ability to engage constructively in discussions about organizational goals, performance, metrics, and deadlines.

    Preferred qualifications and skills:

    • Experience working with specific tools (e.g., AirTable, Proton, G-Suites) for a social sector organization.
    • Experience creating and developing spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel.
    • Experience working in QuickBooks.
    • Experience leveraging information from a variety of sources to help uncover new strategies, inform your decisions and communicate results.
    • Experience working on website development and maintenance.

    Additional details about the role:

    • Geographic requirement: candidates living in Chicago, Illinois or the Chicagoland area will be considered for this position. While much of the work will take place remotely, team meetings will take place regularly (biweekly and sometimes more frequently). The individual hired will likely be asked to attend in-person events for and/or on behalf of SACRED from time-to-time in and around the Chicagoland area.
    • Compensation: Starting rate of $25 per hour
    • The Administrative Associate will be asked to regularly provide updates on their work to the SACRED team and must be able to meet internal deadlines;
    • All staff are expected to comply with SACRED’s digital security policies and practices;
      • While SACRED is a growing organization at this stage, an initial six-month contract will be offered.
      • SACRED is a growing organization. While this is a part-time position, paid at an hourly rate, with a maximum of 10 hours per week, SACRED is actively seeking to increase hours and responsibility for this role.
