    Job Title: Kitchen Support Team Member

    About Us:

    Community Lunch on Capitol Hill is a nonprofit dedicated to fighting hunger and food insecurity in our community. We work with food donors, volunteers, and local partners to collect, prepare, and serve food as nutritious meals to those in need and/or seeking community.     Position Summary:

    Kitchen Team Members align with the CLCH mission, which includes constructively contributing to our creating an atmosphere of hospitality, comfort, and support to guests. Kitchen team members are friendly and cooperative as they join to make the kitchen operation to be the best that it can be in service CLCH’s mission and guests. Responsibilities include supporting kitchen operations and ensuring that nutritious meals are prepared and served.

    This role involves food preparation, cooking assistance, sanitation, and general kitchen duties in a fast-paced in a mission-driven environment.

    Key Tasks:

    1. Food Preparation:
      • Assist with chopping, slicing, and prepping vegetables, fruits, meats, and other ingredients.
      • Ensure food is prepared according to menu guidelines and dietary needs.
      • Help with portioning and packaging meals for distribution.
    2. Cooking Assistance:
      • Support the team with meal production, including basic cooking tasks (e.g., stirring, monitoring food temperature, and following recipes).
      • Ensure meals are prepared in a timely and safe manner.
    3. Sanitation & Cleanliness:
      • Follow proper hygiene and safety protocols at all times.
      • Clean kitchen tools, equipment, and surfaces before, during, and after food preparation.
      • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen area, including washing dishes and utensils, sweeping, mopping, and taking out trash.
      • Ensure all food handling areas comply with food safety regulations and health standards.
    4. Inventory Support:
      • Assist with stocking and organizing food supplies.
      • Report shortages of food items and/or supplies to the Kitchen Lead (Chef) or Assistant Kitchen Lead.
      • Help with unloading and storing food deliveries.
    5. Meal Service & Distribution:
      • Assist with packaging and distributing meals to clients or other service areas.
      • Support food program team with meal service during peak hours, ensuring a smooth and timely operation.
    6. Team Collaboration:
      • Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff, volunteers, and program participants to ensure effective and efficient kitchen operations.
      • Participate in team and staff meetings, as well as training sessions as needed.
    7. Other Duties:
      • Perform other duties as assigned by Kitchen Lead (Chef), Assistant Kitchen Lead, or Executive Director.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience:
      • Previous kitchen or food service experience preferred but not required.
      • Experience in a non-profit or community service setting is a plus.
    • Skills:
      • Extend kindness to others while being performance and achievement oriented.
      • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
      • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
      • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is preferred.
      • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people, including volunteers and clients.
    • Physical Requirements:
      • Ability to stand for extended periods.
      • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly.
      • Comfortable working in a kitchen environment with potentially hot surfaces, sharp objects, and cleaning chemicals.

    Reports To: Kitchen Lead (Chef) and Executive Director

    Hours: 25-30 hours per week- likely increasing to 40 hours within a year

    Compensation:

    • $23-$26 hourly, DOE
