We believe young people are capable of incredible things and work with over 5,000 youth annually across NYC's five boroughs through school partnerships, apprenticeship programs, youth employment enterprises, and summer camps. Our work spans from our headquarters in Red Hook, Brooklyn, to our workshop on Governors Island, and our sleep-away camp in Strafford, New Hampshire. In addition to nurturing youth, we cultivate a thriving community of like-minded peers and mentors who encourage each other’s ambitions and passions. High levels of staff support is a signature element of our model. The BEAM offers staff and participants opportunities to take creative risks, to learn new skills, and to collaborate on big projects in unique ways.

    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Finance Coordinator supports various aspects of cross-program financial and administrative

    work at Beam Center. This position reports primarily to the Director of Finance, supporting general

    accounts receivable and payable activities (invoicing, record-keeping, payment processing, etc.).

    This position works closely on a regular basis with the Director of Finance, Chief Financial Officer,

    and various program and department leads. This position provides opportunity for long-term growth

    within the organization. This position will start as part-time hourly but will offer opportunity for the

    right candidate to transition into a full-time role.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Finance & Accounting Operations

    • Support accounts payable, including tracking, processing, recording vendor payments using internal accounting software and systems
    • Support accounts receivable, including creating and submitting invoices, submitting documentation, tracking payments, and ensuring timely payment of open invoices using internal and external systems (Quickbooks, Polaris, PASSPort)
    • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
    • Create work orders and manage purchase orders from organizational partners including schools, community-based organizations, and NYC agencies
    • Manage & process employee expense reports (Expensify)
    • Support internal purchasing systems
    • Assist with preparing financial reports and other finance-related materials as needed

    Systems & Data Management

    • Ensure data accuracy and consistency across systems
    • Support improvements to existing workflows and help develop new systems for tracking financial and staffing information
    • Learn new platforms and systems as needed
    • Assist with data entry and system cleanup projects as needed

    General Administration

    • Work with Finance Director to complete recurring and special financial tasks on schedule
    • Provide general administrative and operational support to the Finance team
    • Support basic office operations (mail processing, file management, office supplies)
    • Assist with other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS OF STRONG CANDIDATES

    • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field OR 3 years of experience in administrative roles, particularly in a non-profit setting
    • Highly organized: deadline- and detail-oriented, able to create and adhere to schedules
    • Adaptable: able to learn and improve upon existing systems
    • Able to keep track of multiple projects/duties simultaneously
    • Experience using the following platforms: Quickbooks, Expensify, Google Suite, Airtable
    • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds (youth-serving experience a +)
    • Highly collaborative, able to ask questions, offer insight, and celebrate teamwork
    • Highly independent, able to set and manage personal goals, expectations, schedule
    • Strong communication skills
    • Curious, life-long learner

    COMPENSATION

    • Hourly Rate: $26-$29/hr, dependent upon experience
