    Social Worker for Unaccompanied Immigrant Children in San Francisco

    The Immigration Center for Women and Children (ICWC) seeks a full-time social worker to join its legal team in its San Francisco Mid-Market office. ICWC is a non-profit legal organization providing immigration services to underrepresented immigrants in California and Nevada. ICWC strives to provide security and stability for children who are abused, abandoned, or neglected and for immigrants who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and other violent crimes. The organization primarily works with federal immigration laws that allow marginalized immigrants apply for work authorization and permanent residency. ICWC’s team is recognized nationally for its humanitarian immigration law expertise and for the exceptional legal services it provides to immigrants who are survivors of trauma. To date, ICWC has served more than 75,000 individuals. More information about ICWC is available at www.icwclaw.org.

    The social worker will provide support to unaccompanied immigrant children who fled abuse in their home country and have been released from the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) custody. The social worker will collaborate with legal staff to provide holistic, trauma-informed services to promote each client’s physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing as they navigate their legal case.

    The salary range is $70,000- $82,000, depending on experience and education.

    Responsibilities:

    Responsibilities include the following:

    • Conduct needs and strengths assessments to evaluate clients’ safety, stability, physical and mental health, emotional wellbeing, housing, and education
    • Provide socio-emotional support to youth as they navigate their legal case
    • Draft client declarations and help youth who have experienced trauma to communicate their stories to facilitate healing and help build their legal case
    • Connect clients to necessary services and support
    • Maintain detailed, accurate records for each case
    • Collaborate with legal staff about the client’s case and wellbeing
    • Acquire medical, mental health, and/or criminal records relevant to a case
    • Provide letters of support to be included in court cases and legal filings
    • Share principles of trauma informed and healing centered practice with ICWC staff
    • Commit to working as a member of a collaborative team that includes administrative staff, social worker, and attorneys; ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with other team members

    Qualifications:

    • MSW required
    • Spanish fluency required
    • Effective communication and organizational skills and a meticulous attention to detail
    • Working knowledge of the immigration system or other systems that impact children (education, delinquency, and dependency/child welfare)
    • Understanding of cultural humility, healing and trauma informed practices
    • Understanding of resources and network of services for youth and their families in our community
    • Experience working within the Latinx community and with child survivors of trauma preferred
    • Ability to take initiative and push forward new ideas
    • Demonstrated interest in civil liberties and immigrants' rights is preferred
