    Descripción

Kids and Car Safety (KACS) is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization committed to saving the lives of children in and around motor vehicles. Through cutting-edge data collection, research, public education, policy reform, and family empowerment, we bring critical but often overlooked vehicle safety issues into the national spotlight. For over 30 years, our work has driven impactful change and prevented countless tragedies.

    Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate, empathetic, and highly motivated individual to lead our Family Support, Engagement, and Advocacy efforts. This role is ideal for someone who is driven by purpose, thrives in an independent work environment, and is eager to develop meaningful programs that uplift grieving families and amplify their voices to make real change.

You will play a vital role in supporting families who have experienced unimaginable loss by helping them channel their grief into advocacy and public education. You'll formalize and expand KACS’s long-standing family support work into a comprehensive, sustainable program that offers healing, empowerment, growth, and lasting impact.

    What You’ll Do

      • Design and implement family engagement programs focused on grief support, storytelling, community education, advocacy and fundraising.
      • Provide direct support to families, helping them share their child’s story in powerful, impactful ways.
      • Outreach to families after the loss or serious injury of a child
      • Develop and lead support groups and connection opportunities for grieving families.
      • Contribute to fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor outreach, and impact reporting.
      • Build community partnerships, represent KACS at events, and empower families to participate in local and national education and awareness campaigns.
      • Train and manage volunteers to expand the reach and effectiveness of family programs.
      • Track and evaluate program outcomes using both qualitative and quantitative measures.
      • Collaborate closely with KACS leadership to align programs with our strategic vision and mission.

    What We’re Looking For

      • Deep empathy and a trauma-informed approach to working with grieving families.
      • Proven experience in program development and management, particularly in social services, nonprofit, or advocacy settings.
      • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to organize support groups and manage sensitive conversations with compassion.
      • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects independently.
      • Emotional resilience and the ability to stay grounded while working with emotionally challenging material.
      • A creative, resourceful, and proactive mindset with a passion for justice and child safety.

    Preferred Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in social work, public health, education, counseling, nonprofit management, or a related field.
      • 3+ years of experience in family services, trauma support, advocacy, community outreach, or related work.
      • Training in grief counseling, trauma-informed care, or crisis intervention is a strong plus.
      • Experience with grant writing and fundraising.
      • Passion for public health, injury prevention, or child advocacy work.

    Work Environment & Compensation

      • Remote & Flexible: Work from home on a flexible schedule with occasional in-person events.
      • Location: While KACS is headquartered in the Kansas City area, this position serves families across the U.S.
      • Part-Time with Growth Potential: Currently part-time, with strong potential to grow into a full-time role as programs expand.
      • Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

    Why Join Us?

At KACS, you’ll be part of a small but mighty team fueled by compassion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to protecting children. Your work will directly impact families across the country and help save lives—work that truly matters.
