    Descripción

The Alliance for Affordable Energy (AAE) is seeking a part-time contractor to join the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) organizing team to assist with education and Get Out The Vote efforts in advance of the 2026 LPSC election.

    Who We Are:

Our mission at The Alliance is to safeguard Louisiana’s future by protecting consumers’ right to an affordable, equitable, and environmentally responsible energy system.

Our vision is a future where energy works for everyone.

Founded in 1985, the Alliance for Affordable Energy promotes fair, affordable, environmentally responsible energy. From the start, we have advanced a philosophy that there is no conflict between lower energy costs and lower pollution, between good jobs and regulation, or between serving the public interest and making a reasonable profit. Because we are both a consumer advocate and public health advocacy organization, our policy work meets at the crossroads of social justice, sustainable economic development, and environmental protection.

We are the only dedicated consumer advocate for utility customers in Louisiana. In support of our mission, our team at the Alliance is made up of policy experts, organizers, and support staff focused on consumer advocacy in the energy and utility space. Our advocacy takes us across the state where we fight for energy efficiency, clean energy solutions, and to help families keep the lights on. In our work, we monitor, educate, and participate in state and city utility regulation to ensure the public's best interests are always a part of the conversation. The Alliance is committed to promoting a new vision for energy policy in Louisiana and our recent accomplishments demonstrate the importance of bridging technical policy work and community organizing.

AAE adheres to the Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizing and The Principles of Environmental Justice (EJ)

    Our Need:

We are currently looking for a part time (20-30 hours/week) Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) Education Coordinator/Northern Louisiana Organizer to drive our education campaign in Northern Louisiana. This person will educate residents about state level electric utility regulation and opportunities for engagement at the LPSC and work with partner organizations who lead Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts. This is a temporary contract role that will conclude at the completion of the campaign in June 2026 with the possibility of extending through December 2026.

The LPSC is often referred to as one of the most impactful elected positions that no one knows about. We aim to change that through this education campaign. Nearly all of Louisiana’s energy decisions are made at the LPSC, including the applications for new power plants, review of rate increases, and intrastate oil pipelines. This coming year is an election year for two of the five elected Commissioners. Each term runs six years, with a three term limit, totalling up to a possible 18 years in office. This election is crucial for Louisiana residents, and we need engaged voters who understand the power of the LPSC.

We seek someone with organizing and outreach experience who has existing ties to communities and civic organizations in District 5 (which includes Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Caldwell, Catahoula, Claiborne, Concordia, DeSoto, East Carroll, Franklin, Jackson, Lincoln, Madison, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Red River, Richland, Sabine, Tensas, Union, Webster, West Carroll, and Winn Parishes). This person would need to be confident in working closely with Louisiana’s diverse communities to empower individuals to engage with elected officials in a potentially unfamiliar place. A relevant college degree or equivalent experience is preferred, although not required.

    Core activities include:

    • Conduct outreach to residents, businesses, and community groups to educate on the role and importance of the LPSC with a focus on LPSC District 5.
    • Work with AAE staff to develop and promote educational content as well as brief (30-60 sec) explainer videos and webinars for Louisiana residents about the electric utility regulatory landscape, LPSC duties, and recent decisions.
    • Plan, organize, and facilitate community meetings aimed at educating the public on how to engage at the LPSC and with elected Commissioners.
    • Work with other AAE staff to engage LPSC candidates on candidate surveys.
    • Plan and execute candidate forums in Districts 1 and 5.
    • Identify and partner with allied organizations on GOTV efforts.
    • Strive to build ongoing capacity in the community to maximize civic education and engagement.

    Benefits and compensation

    • 20-30 hours per week through June 2026, with possibility to extend through December.
    • $25 per hour.
    • Mileage reimbursement.
    • Remote possible.

    Who You Are:

    Required Qualifications

    • Competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint (or equivalent tools).
    • Experience with social media outlets including Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, and Twitter.
    • Takes initiative to identify and carry out necessary tasks.
    • Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Able to travel frequently, including occasional evenings and weekends.
    • Must have a valid Drivers Licence and access to an insured vehicle.
    • Access to laptop and cell phone.

    An ideal candidate will also:

    • Reside in LPSC District 5. The District map can be found here.
    • Have existing relationships with community groups, civic organizations, churches, etc. in Northern Louisiana.
    • Experience with community engagement and/or organizing.
