    Development & Community Engagement Coordinator

Location: Anchorage, Alaska (with travel to Lake Clark)

Type: Part-time (15-25 hours on average)

Compensation: Modest salary commensurate with experience; benefits to include occasional adventure travel

    About Chulitna Lodge

Chulitna Lodge is a historic wilderness retreat on the shores of Lake Clark (in Lake Clark National Park & Preserve) located 180 miles from the nearest road, accessible only by charter flight and boat. We host artist residencies and fellowship programs for visual artists, writers, musicians, researchers and more—providing “the time, space, clarity and facilities for creative professionals to make and meditate in the Alaskan wilderness.

Our mission is to share a love for responsible exploration of our world’s most remote locations, to preserve wild places, and to personally reap the benefits of a world apart.

    Position Summary

The Development & Community Engagement Coordinator will be a strategic, hands-on leader responsible for elevating the Lodge’s fundraising, marketing, communications and event-promotion efforts. You will help translate the magic of our remote location and creative residency experience into compelling stories, engage donors and partners, secure grant funding, and promote events and programs that expand our reach and impact.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Fundraising & Grant Development
      • Research, identify and cultivate relationships with foundations, corporations, individual donors, tourism and arts sponsors.
      • Write and manage grant proposals and reports aligned with the Residency & Retreat programs.
      • Develop annual fundraising goals and campaigns, tracking donor life-cycle and gift impact.
      • Support fellowship fundraising and sponsorships for our fully-funded residencies.
    • Communications & Storytelling
      • Craft compelling content (web, email newsletters, social media, press releases, print materials) that elevates the story of Chulitna Lodge’s unique remote-wilderness + arts residency model.
      • Manage and update the website, blog, partner outreach, and ensure consistent brand voice.
      • Work with resident artists to document and share their process and work in-residence (e.g., guest features, blog posts, media coverage).
    • Event and Program Promotion
      • Plan and promote signature events, visiting-artist lecture series (“Chulitna Chat”), exhibitions, donor visits, and retreats.
      • Coordinate logistics, marketing materials, partnerships, sponsorships and volunteer support for events aligning with both the arts and wilderness community.
    • Community Engagement & Partnerships
      • Build and nurture relationships with local Alaskan cultural institutions, tourism partners, arts networks, and wilderness-conservation organizations.
      • Represent Chulitna Lodge in community forums, arts networks, and donor gatherings.
      • Leverage the remote-wilderness setting as part of the value proposition for philanthropic, arts and adventure-tourism partnerships.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, grant writing or communications — preferably in the arts.
    • Excellent storytelling and writing skills; ability to craft both heartfelt impact narratives and strategic grant language.
    • Strong project management skills — able to juggle multiple campaigns, deadlines, and roles in a small-team environment.
    • Comfort with digital marketing tools (website CMS, email platforms, social media, basic design tools) and donor/CRM databases.
    • Passion for the arts, creativity, wilderness settings and the mission of preserving wild places through creative practice.
    • Willingness to be based in or regularly travel to a remote Alaskan environment (fly-in only, off-grid logistics) and adapt to a dynamic, smaller-staff operation.
    • Ability to work independently, show initiative, and thrive in both remote-wilderness operations and donor/arts networks.

    Why Join Us

This role offers a rare blend of art, wilderness and community: you’ll have the opportunity to work and play in one of America’s most beautiful and remote settings, while helping shape the future of an arts residency that supports creatives from around the world. You’ll be part of a passionate team that values innovation, story, collaboration and deep connection — to nature, to art, and to place.

    Compensación

Benefits include adventure travel to various parts of remote Alaska.
