    Accounting & Finance Associate Job DescriptionOrganization Overview:Sakhi for South Asian Survivors exists to represent the South Asian and Indo Caribbean diaspora in a survivor-led movement for gender-justice and to honor the collective and inherent power of all survivors of violence. Sakhi is committed to serving survivors through a combination of efforts including—but not limited to—direct services, advocacy and organizing, technical assistance, and community outreach.Sakhi serves survivors from the South Asian and Indo-Caribbean diaspora who trace their backgrounds to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, and Africa. Members of our community come from diverse backgrounds including age range, gender, religion, ethnic origin, economic and educational background, language spoken, and immigration status. Position ResponsibilitiesThe Accounting & Finance Associate will be responsible for managing the financial and administrative functions in the Finance Department. These functions include accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), budget and grant management, payroll processing, monthly revenue and expense reconciliations and reporting and assisting with the annual audit. This is a full-time position and will report directly to the Associate Director of Finance & Operations.Principal DutiesFinancial ManagementManage the Accounts Payable processRecord all vendor invoices in the accounting system in a timely manner; receive approval and make payments accordinglyReview vendor statements and answer any vendor inquiriesMaintain W-9 documentation for all contractorsReview employee credit card activity, reconcile to monthly statements, and record activity into accounting systemManage the rental payment process for the Housing Justice Program - ensure all rental payments are submitted in a timely manner, ensure accurate grant allocation for all payments, keep track of security deposits etc.Manage the Accounts Receivable processRecord all deposits (checks) into the accounting system accurately and in a timely manner, and file copies of receiptsEnsure Accounts Receivable report is updated and manage collection of aging itemsMonth-end processEnsure financial records are closed by the 15th of each month (for the prior month)Work with outsourced Controller to prepare monthly reportsAssist in updating revenue and expense forecast following month end closeFinancial ProcessesAssist in the development and implementation of best in class financial processes and internal controlsBudget/Grant ManagementAssist in grants administration i.e. the preparation of grant reports or reimbursement requests for grant awardsEnter and update staff allocations in Sakhi’s budgeting system to ensure the accuracy of operating budget and forecast scenariosProduce budget versus actual financial reports for grants as neededAudit SupportAssist with vendor and cash receipts files and supporting documentation during annual financial statement auditsAssist with the annual audit processPayroll ProcessingPrepare Payroll for review and approval, submit updates to payroll processing company such as salary changes and other pertinent HR infoQualificationsA bachelor’s degree in accounting, or business administration supplemented by courses in accountingMinimum of two years bookkeeping/financial management experience including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and maintenance of various supporting schedulesExperience in developing and managing organizational and grant budgets, including experience tracking of indirect cost rates on grantsDetailed knowledge of and experience working with QuickBooks accounting softwareDemonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google SheetsAbility to work effectively as part of an office teamDetail-oriented, with excellent organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks meeting all deadlinesKeen analytical and problem-solving skillsDesired - knowledge of nonprofit expense tracking and payment processing and, with training, an awareness of how these practices affect variance analysis and budgetingMust be able to work in either NYC office 1-2 days a week Application InformationThe salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 commensurate with experience.
