    About Stimson

    About the Program and Position Summary

    The Stimson Center's Global Governance, Justice and Security Program aims to advance more capable global and regional institutions to better cope with existing and emerging global challenges and to create new opportunities through effective multilateral action, including with the global business community and civil society. Through a combination of policy dialogues, research and analysis, and online network-building, the program engages governments, international organizations' leaders, country missions to the United Nations, the United Nations Secretariat, and other multilateral institutions such as the G20.

    Hosted by the Global Governance, Justice, and Security Program, the Global Governance Innovation Network (GGIN) brings world class scholarship together with international policymaking to address fundamental global governance challenges, threats, and opportunities. Research through the network focuses on the development of institutional, policy, legal, operational, and normative improvements in the global governance architecture.

    Responsibilities:

    • Research, write, proofread, and copy-edit program issue briefs, policy papers, analytical research reports, project reports to funders, and stakeholder updates;
    • Coordinate with project stakeholders and funders to meet deliverables and support project objectives;
    • Research and track funding opportunities and contribute to project funding and research grant proposals;
    • Provide administrative support to the Global Governance Innovation Network, to sustain relationships, and promote results of the Global Policy Dialogues and related research products, including those associated with the new Pact Innovation Forum project;
    • Provide administrative and logistic support for program activities; and
    • Other responsibilities as appropriate.

    Qualifications - required:

    • B.A. or advanced degree and demonstrated interest or background in international relations, international organizations, development economics, climate governance, and/or international security;
    • Familiarity with the UN system (including the international financial institutions), G20, WTO, and other global governance forums and processes.
    • Ability to work independently and to collaborate with peers in a team environment;
    • Strong organizational and communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines;
    • Superior research, analysis, writing, copy-editing, and proofreading skills;
    • Diplomatic skills and cultural sensitivity; willingness to work with global stakeholders, occasionally during non-standard hours;
    • Experience with SharePoint, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other workplace tools that support team organization and promote hybrid collaboration and teamwork; and
    • Creative problem-solving.

    Qualifications - preferred:

    • M.A. in Political Science, International Relations, International Law, Development Economics, International Security, or a related field;
    • Proficiency in a foreign language, particularly one or more of the official UN languages;
    • Prior non-profit experience in the areas of UN and broader global governance studies;
    • Experience with legal research and textual analysis;
    • Experience with social-media platforms, analytics, and effective promotion strategies; experience developing social media awareness, promotional campaigns, and calendars;
    • Experience with database management or development, as well as relevant tools like Wordpress, Datawrapper, AirTable, STATA, SPSS, etc.; and
    • Experience with qualitative analysis and related tools (e.g. NVivo).
