    Key Responsibilities

    A. AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Program Leadership

    Under the direction of the President responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Project Director Job Description

      1. Program Planning & Development
      • Plan and develop all phases of AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP operations, including volunteer recruitment, placement, and retention.
      • Implement and monitor performance measures and other AmeriCorps RSVP grant requirements.
      • Coordinate AmeriCorps RSVP program resources with those of related local agencies, boards, and organizations.
      1. Staff & Volunteer Management
      • Assist with hiring, training, and supervising RSVP staff and volunteers, as applicable, to ensure efficient operations.
      • Provide support, information, and materials to RSVP coordinators and evaluate staff performance in coordination with ALMS leadership.
      • Recruit, select, orient, and place AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers with appropriate volunteer stations.
      • Provide ongoing support to volunteers and, in conjunction with RSVP staff, appraise volunteer performance.
      1. Partner & Station Management
      • Develop and maintain close relationships with RSVP volunteer stations, including development and maintenance of volunteer assignment plans and memoranda of understanding.
      • Assess the appropriateness and performance of volunteer stations, and address issues of compliance and quality.
      • Work in cooperation with ALMS staff, advisory council members, and volunteer station staff to obtain resources for programs.
      1. Compliance, Data, and Reporting
      • Develop and maintain accurate fiscal, personnel, program, and volunteer records and reports in accordance with AmeriCorps and ALMS policies.
      • Serve as the representative of ALMS in signing and approving official RSVP project documentation, including project reports, MOUs, and other required documents.
      • Ensure timely and accurate submission of all required AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP reports, including continuation and progress reports.
      1. Community Engagement & Public Relations
      • Enhance the efforts of RSVP through active involvement with community organizations and other national service programs where appropriate.
      • Plan, develop, and implement ongoing public relations activities, including social media, in cooperation with ALMS communications staff/volunteers.
      • Arrange formal and regular recognition of volunteers, partner organizations, and supporters.
      1. Advisory Council & Training
      • Keep the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Advisory Council informed and actively engage them on matters affecting program operations.
      • Attend training conferences and technical assistance sessions conducted or authorized by AmeriCorps and relevant funding agencies.

    B. Grants Management & Development

    In addition to the RSVP operational responsibilities, the Project Director & Grants Manager will:

      1. Grant Strategy & Pipeline
      • Work with the Executive Director and Board to develop an annual grants strategy aligned with ALMS program priorities (RSVP, senior services, food security, intergenerational programming, etc.).
      • Proactively identify and research new funding opportunities at the federal, state, county, municipal, corporate, and foundation levels.
      1. Grant Writing & Submission
      • Lead the drafting, editing, and submission of high-quality grant proposals, including:
        • AmeriCorps continuation and competitive applications;
        • NY/NJ state and county grants;
        • City/municipal contracts;
        • Corporate and private foundation grants.
      • Prepare detailed narratives, logic models, work plans, and budgets in collaboration with program and finance staff.
      • Ensure all submissions are complete, compliant, and submitted by or before deadlines.
      1. Grant Compliance & Reporting
      • Maintain a grants calendar (application, reporting, renewal deadlines) and ensure all reports are submitted on time.
      • Coordinate the collection of data, stories, and financial information required for grant reports.
      • Monitor grant deliverables and performance measures, collaborating with program staff to ensure alignment between funded activities and actual operations.
      1. Internal Collaboration
      • Work closely with finance to ensure accurate grant budgeting, tracking, and allowable cost allocation.
      • Provide regular updates to the Executive Director and Board on grant pipeline, awards, and risks.
      • Support development of sustainability plans for key programs and new initiatives.

    Qualifications

    Required:

      • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., public administration, social work, nonprofit management, education, public health, or related discipline), or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Project director Job Description

      • At least 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit program management, preferably with older adults and/or volunteers.
      • Demonstrated experience managing government or federal grants (AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, HUD, AoA, state or county grants, etc.).
      • Proven track record of writing and securing grants, with at least several successful awards that can be described in detail.
      • Strong project management skills, including the ability to juggle multiple deadlines and stakeholders.
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including preparing grants, written reports, and presentations/trainings.
      • High level of comfort with technology and data systems (e.g., online grant portals, Excel/Sheets, CRM or volunteer management tools).
      • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while engaging effectively with a distributed team.
      • Ability to attend after-hours and weekend meetings/events occasionally, and to travel regionally to program sites and partners as needed.

    Preferred:

      • Direct experience as an AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Project Director or staff member, AmeriCorps program manager, or similar federal grant role.
      • Experience working with volunteers aged 55+ and/or senior-serving organizations.
      • Experience managing multi-county or multi-partner initiatives.
      • Familiarity with New York and New Jersey nonprofit and public funding landscapes.

    Work Environment & Location

      • This is a remote position with flexible scheduling, subject to program and funder deadlines.
      • Periodic in-person meetings, site visits, and events in New York and New Jersey are required; candidates should reside within reasonable travel distance to ALMS service areas.

    Compensation & Benefits

      • Salary range: $70,000 – $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
