    Descripción

Symphony Space seeks a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Intern to join its in-house Finance Department beginning October 2025 and running through spring semester 2026.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, our internship is an opportunity for an actively enrolled student at the college level to gain direct finance and accounting experience at a leading New York nonprofit performing arts organization, assisting the finance and administrative teams and working with program managers at Symphony Space. At the end of the internship, the Accounting Intern will be familiar with a diverse and broad variety of accounting and financial concepts, from box office tickets sales and rental income to contributed revenue in the nonprofit world, as well as many interesting facets of accounting, including monthly closes to annual audit procedures and preparation. The Accounting Intern will also become conversant with Financial Edge accounting software used by other nonprofit organizations.

Activities for the Accounting Intern include:

    • Record monthly deposits from donors, record transactions from Spektrix and concessions. A great opportunity to use the powerful accounting software Financial Edge.
    • Reconcile rental deposits, deferred income, and ticket sales. Also reconcile box office-related balance sheet accounts.
    • Assist with month-end closes: reconcile cash and credit-card accounts.
    • Help file digital documents. Give suggestions on how to better organize our online filing system.

The Accounting Intern position is hybrid, 10-15 hours per week, with remote hours and weekly onsite hours on Thursdays at our theaters located at 95 Street and Broadway in Manhattan. We also invite our intern--class schedule allowing--to join our periodic onsite All-Staff days and weekly virtual All Staff meetings.

A weekly stipend of $150 is paid bi-weekly.

Candidates majoring in accounting or finance with an interest in the arts and nonprofits, a willingness to learn, good communication and organizational skills, and strong attention to detail are encouraged to apply. Please send your cover letter and resume to: internship@symphonyspace.org
