    Job Title: Development & Communications Manager Department: Development

    Reports to: Director of Development & Grants Management

    Location: In-person at our Northgate Office

    Job Summary

    The Development & Communications Manager is responsible for executing fundraising and other development initiatives, with a particular focus on external communications in order to enhance Washington Poison Center's visibility, donor engagement, and financial sustainability. This role involves donor stewardship, campaign management, grant writing, and content creation across various platforms.

    Job Responsibilities

    Development & Fundraising:

    • Execute strategic fundraising and other development initiatives. Assist in growing our Corporate Giving strategies, including logistics, promotion, and donor engagement. Contribute to the development and implementation of fundraising strategies. Work with the team to cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and funding partners.
    • Manage the Individual Giving program including Annual Giving and Major Donors programs. Maintain donor databases, track contributions, and generate donor acknowledgment letters. Track donor engagement and fundraising campaign progress.
    • Keep donors, media, and fundraising contacts up to date.
    • Collaborate closely with the Director of Development & Grants Management on executing the grants program. Write and submit compelling proposals to secure funding from corporate, private, and community foundations. Assist with public funding opportunities. Maintain records and keep contacts updated. Research and schedule grant prospects.
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director on Development and Outreach.

    Communications:

    • Collaborate with the Director of Development and the Director of PR & Education to create and maintain the development side of our strategic communications.
      • Contribute to the creation and execution of an editorial calendar for WAPC’s digital marketing and development initiatives in coordination with the Director of Development and Director of PR & Education.
      • Create compelling content, including press releases, blog posts, impact stories, and marketing materials for donor engagement. Be part of the team that executes consistent social media messaging on multiple platforms to all constituents.
      • Create and format web content on WordPress to support development goals on WAPC’s website.
    • Maintain consistency in messaging and branding across all communication channels as set by the Director of PR & Education. Collaborate with teams to align messaging and storytelling with the organization’s mission.
    • Monitor industry trends and best practices in nonprofit fundraising and communications.

    Strategic & Administrative Support:

    • Assist in analyzing fundraising and marketing efforts, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve engagement.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
    • 4+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, communications, or a related role. Healthcare or public health environment preferred. Have a proven track record successfully fundraising for a nonprofit.
    • Strong verbal skills including public speaking, delivering presentations, and speaking with individual donors or corporate donors in person and/or by telephone.
    • Experience with WordPress and knowledge of basic HTML preferred.
    • Experience with web content development. Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with experience writing compelling donor appeals.
    • A desire to think and act with creativity, collaboration, and compassion.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
    • Experience with donor database management (Little Green Light) is preferred.
    • Proficiency in email marketing (MailChimp) and survey tools (Survey Monkey)
    • Experience managing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) strongly preferred.
    • Experience with content creation platforms (Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud).
    • Strong interpersonal skills focused on building sustainable relationships and crafting consensus. Initiative, accountability, collaboration and impact orientation.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
    • Ability to flexibly support new initiatives and responsibilities as the position develops and expands.
    • A passion for the mission and goals of the organization.

    Physical & Environmental Conditions:

    • Must have reliable transportation for possible travel in State of Washington.
    • Ability to work in a professional office setting with multiple types of electronic equipment.
    • Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
