    Descripción

    The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, orientation, training, recognition, scheduling and day-to-day support of all volunteers. This role works with the Senior Manager of Volunteer Engagement to update processes and procedures regularly to ensure the organization works with volunteers in a way that ensures safety on site and supports the volunteer strategy and culture of the organization.

    The Volunteer Coordinator connects to the mission of the WCFB by ensuring volunteers are available and trained to provide food and other services to customers and staff throughout the food bank.     All paid staff positions are expected to manage time effectively, engage with customers, volunteers and donors effectively and with compassion and support in-kind and financial resource development.

    This full-time position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime) and will be supervised by the Development and Communications Director, with collaboration from the Senior Manager of Volunteer Engagement.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Volunteer Management – 80%

    • Provide day-to-day support for volunteers using the Volunteer Management Strategy Responsible for the recruitment and onboarding of volunteers and groups; grows the volunteer candidate pool
      • Delivers formal and informal orientation, training, scheduling and supervision
      • Plans, assigns and directs volunteer work in coordination with staff supervisors
      • Serves as a primary point of contact for volunteers
      • Explain and follow volunteer policies and processes
      • Support creation of copy and content for monthly newsletters and other communications to volunteers
      • Organizes social, recognition and continuing education events for volunteers, with support from other staff and the board
      • Performs direct outreach to engage volunteers in shifts by call, text or email, as needed.
      • Support court-ordered or student community service volunteering and completion of service recognition
      • Updates the volunteer management system, CERVIS, and supports volunteer and staff use of the system
    • Diffuse and deescalate stressful situations and support healthy conflict resolution as needed between volunteers and others
    • Keeps updated of program and organizational needs; facilitates program growth and development of new positions; finds and recommends innovative ways to use volunteers
    • Maintains thorough understanding of CERVIS database and records of volunteers; regularly maintains updates and refreshes system
    • Support supervision of long-term contracted volunteers (Students, ReWA, etc.)
    • Participates in community engagement and networking as needed and appropriate

    Other Support Where Needed – 20%

    • Engage with customers effectively and with compassion
    • Collaborate with Development Team members for event support, serving as back up support for outreach & other events
    • Backup for operations (grocery store, warehouse, mobile, home delivery and intake)
    • Utilize non-English language skills as requested by the Operations and Intake team

    PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • Valid Washington State Driver’s License
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Preference for those that are bilingual or multilingual, especially in one of the following: Khmer/Cambodian, Mandarin, Somali, Vietnamese, Spanish, Arabic, Tigrinya, or Amharic
    • 2 to 4 years of related professional-level experience, experience in volunteer management preferred
    • Previous experience in food access, whether professional or live

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job

    • Working at a computer for long periods of time
    • Sitting, standing, bending, reaching, pulling / pushing, kneeling, twisting, grasping, and walking.
    • Ability to work weekends or evenings, as needed
    • Occasional moving, transporting, and positioning of items weighing at least 25 lbs

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    • Salary range is $31.00 to $34.00 per hour, depending on experience
