    Descripción

Organized Power In Numbers (OPIN) works at the intersection of worker power and modern digital and data-driven organizing to help our movements reach millions of people, invite them into movement, and level up campaigns that win for workers, their families, and their communities. We utilize online and offline base building and organizing strategies, comprehensive campaigns, strategic litigation and communications, and policy advocacy to win concrete demands that improve the conditions of workers’ lives and promote civic engagement at the local, state, and national levels. In addition to running our own campaigns, we act as a public utility to power the campaigns and outreach efforts of others, supporting partners with lead generation, campaign strategy, and the implementation of outreach and organizing.

OPIN is a national organization and occasional travel assignments are required for all employees including for remote and regional positions.

The Data Associate’s primary responsibility is to build out, maintain, and troubleshoot our internal data sources, digital platforms, and technical infrastructure, while serving as the department’s primary support contact for staff, contractors, and external partners. They will also demonstrate an ability to lead and execute strategy in a fast-paced and dynamic campaigning environment while balancing short- and long-term organizational and campaign priorities.

Reports to: Deputy Data and Technology Director

Key Relationships: Director of Digital Organizing and Technology, National Digital Organizers

    Location: Remote

    Compensation: $80,000 annually

    Duration: Through December 31, 2026

    Responsibilities:

    • Write and debug SQL queries to gather, clean, and analyze data from a variety of sources, including internal databases and external data sets.
    • Perform basic exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and correlations within our data.
    • Collect, clean, and process data as needed for reports and analysis.
    • Collaborate across departments to ensure our reporting systems are accurate, each department’s needs are met, and that their future needs are captured and modeled as reportable metrics.
    • Assist in maintaining the department’s data standards throughout the organization.
    • Work alongside the Deputy Data and Technology Director to manage our digital tools and facilitate requests with The Movement Cooperative, contractors, and other external partners.
    • Assist in building out systems and platform integrations (either by writing custom code or by using automation platforms like Zapier) to meet the needs of the organizing and digital departments.
    • Create workshops, training, and written materials for a general audience on how to use OPIN’s digital tools, conform to data standards, and maintain digital security.
    • Serve as the department’s primary contact for technical support and troubleshooting assistance.
    • Coordinate data requests to contractors made by OPIN staff.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Concrete experience using SQL to process, clean, and/or analyze data sets at a basic to intermediate level (e.g., aggregating columns, joining tables, data cleaning).
    • Ability to read and write SQL without the use of ChatGPT or other AI-based code generation tools.
    • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or R (or interest in learning them).
    • Experience with data warehouses (ideally BigQuery) and familiarity with database schema design principles (e.g., data normalization, dimensional data modeling).
    • Comfort using bash/CLI-based utilities and tools. Unix server administration experience is a plus.
    • Ability to build strong partnerships and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners, many of whom do not have technical backgrounds.
    • A desire to continuously learn new things and an eagerness to explore unfamiliar tools
    • Project management experience, including delegation, managing up, and managing expectations for themselves and projects.
    • Proven ability to handle projects, set priorities, manage details, and follow through independently while being an active virtual communicator (via Slack, Zoom, etc).
    • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and challenge people to take risks in order to make change
    • Passion for social justice, building power in multi-racial working-class communities, decolonizing political organizing spaces, empowering grassroots leaders, and enacting impactful socio-economic policies towards long-term systemic changes.
    • Flexibility and a willingness to take on an array of competing tasks.

    Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

    • One or more years of experience building and automating data pipelines using scripting languages like Python or R.
    • Work experience with political data sets (such as voter files, US census, or redistricting data).
    • Prior experience in an electoral or labor organizing campaign.
